Item Specifics Warnings new

I get this warning for almost every item I list; I just ignore, it of course. But my curiosity's got me wondering what exactly it means.

=====
Warning: Warning Code 21916516: Category 360 only accepts custom item specifics.
=====

Does it mean we're not supposed to be using the pre-formatted values we see on the Item Specifics tab on the Auction Lots window??? So when I use one of the values already in the drop-down list, that doesn't count? I have to always type in my own values?? I'm not using the old Condition drop-down that appears under the horizontal line (AW says to "Ignore any other condition fields shown below"). Does that "ignore" admonition also apply to things like item type, main color, theme, etc? I should be using only the button titled Add Custom Detail...?

Sue

I get the same warning as well. And frankly, I do not know how to get around it..

I have created Custom item specifics and the same warning appeared even though the custom item specifics submitted correctly.

So I went to the eBAy sell your item form and compared the fields in AW2000 to the sell your item form. Everything was the same.

I personally think it is an eBAy glitch but I don't know for sure.. Let me ask and see.

The other warning that drives me up the wall is the one that erases my Custom item specifics telling me that it is not allowed because the category only accepts custom details. ummm, didn't I just submit a custom detail...

I will ask Thom and let you all know

I think it is glitches on eBay's side...

Hi

Try updating for category and item specifics using Tools > Check for program updates.

If that does not eliminate the warning, just ignore it

Re: Item Specifics Warnings [re: bluepennylady]

I check for program updates every three days and just ran a category update this morning.

I checked several of the Lots I listed recently. All the Item Specifics values I selected -- either from those already available or those I created/typed in (which I guess are considered "custom") -- all show up on eBay just fine.

In your earlier reply, I think you indicated the same warning about accepting only custom Item Specifics would result whether we listed with AW or with eBay's program. Is that right? If so, that proves it's eBay goofiness, I suppose.

A Google search turned up a lot of comments about the same warning:

From eBay Forums:
"It means there is no prefilled item spefics on file for that category, whatever it is.

You must create your own by using the button to add them.

Likely there is not stock photo availible either.

Ebay does not store the prefilled info or photo on the item spefics, they come from and are linked to Muse Inc."

---- AND ----

"To attempt to correct this issue, we suggest that you reset the data within the Turbo Lister program by following the directions below:

1. Open Turbo Lister
2. Go to Tools->Install Complete Version Update
3. This should pop up a dialog box. Click ""OK"".

Once the updates are installed, edit the items generating the error and select the Condition from the Dropdown menu in the Details section, located directly below the Category fields, not within the Item Specific section where it used to be located."

----------------------

This issue is also discussed on some of the developer boards/forums, but no one seems to know exactly how to deal with it.

----------------------

There are references to "only accepts custom item specifics" going back to 2005.

Ok, so we will ignore yet another example of eBay oddness.

Isn't it just par for the course they cannot get their own tools working right with their own site and coding. Unbelievable.

Thanks for the research and posting what you found..
