Would a dropshiper want to create Inventory Items? new

I drop ship from several vendors. I don't have physical stock on hand. Is there any advantage whatsoever to creating stock records and associating them with an Auction Lot from an Inventory Item? It seems like all I get is another record to maintain. If I just create an Auction Lot with no Inventory Item is there any disadvantage? Not real sure of the association of Inventory Items to Auction Lots. All I know is you can create an Auction Lot from an Inventory Item. If you don't have actual stock or need to count how many are on hand, is there any functionality provided by setting up the inventory? Looks like just double work for me.

Hi

Some functions are not available if no inventory item has been created. And some reports are not available as well.

There are many AW2000 users who do not use the Inventory Items module.. It all depends on you and your business model..

However if you decide not to use the Inventorty items now and then later want to , Auction lots created prior to the inventory item cannot be associated ..

You say "Some functions are not available if no inventory item has been created. And some reports are not available as well."

Can you give me some examples of the functions and reports not available should I choose not to set up inventory and just list Auction Lots?

Hi there

Sure,,

None of the Inventory reports will work.. So if you need to pull reports for any type of inventory that isn't possible.. I realize you are drop shipping..

Some of the custom fields will not work on some reports without a related inventory item such as item numbers.

Packing slips etc cannot include the storage location or inventory items number..

Judy,

Thanks. Your online support is quite good. I am slowly figuring things out. I initially imported both inventory and acution lot records and tried linking them. I have discovered it is much easier to just import the items as inventory and create an auction lot for each. I've got around 700 items to post. I am moving from Marketplace Advisor.

Thanks,

Butch
