GIF files in listings

Hi All,
I was listing items that used animated GIF files in the template. They were working fine. Latest listings the GIF files don'e show in the Ebay listing. Only a sox with a smaller box inside with a X is displayed. I checked some listings from June and the GIF's still work. Did Ebay start restricting the use of animation in listings? Any help would be appreciated. I have a number of listing templated that use animated GIFs and will need to change them before making any new listings.

Thanks for all your help.

Re: GIF files in listings new [re: TIB06]

Hi,

You know, I am not quite sure about the animated GIF.. I wil have to double check. I do know eBay is in the process of changing policy on that type of thing.. Java, flash, etc is going to be restricted to only what is considered "safe"... But I didn't think those things were going to be addressed until later on...

There were some glitches here a few weeks ago that have yet to be resolved but I don't know if animation gif was involved or not.

I will check to see if I can find any information for you...

Thanks for the help. If you want to see what I mean here are 2 Ebay item numbers. One show the animation working the other just shows boxes where the animated GIF files would be.
200226919393 works
200242342816 is not

Thanks again for all your help

Re: GIF files in listings new [re: TIB06]

Hi,

I checked the source code on both the auctions. Neither of the URL"s are working.. I can copy and paste the image URL"s into a browser and the "page not found" error appears. Which tells me it is an issue with your provider.

I see your provider is comcast... There have been tons of folks having issues with comcast. Pages going up and down. webspace not working all of the time..

You might consider checking with comcast to see if they are having technical issues with your account.

Hi and thanks for the update. Can you explain to me how you are able to view the URL in the listings. I would like to look at what it is you saw.

Thanks for the help.

Re: GIF files in listings new [re: TIB06]

Rick,

Sure no problem.. After opening the listing in your browser,, go to "View | Source"..... on the menu.. The HTML will open in a notepad text file.. You can scroll down and see the code.

Once you find the image URL, you copy the URL, open another browser window and paste the URL into the browser address bar.. Click go..

If the URL is active, you will be able to view the image in your browser window..

Re: GIF files in listings new [re: TIB06]

Rick,

Here is the image URL for the second auction listing number you provided. It produces a page 404 error suggesting that I check the URL I typed in. Well the URL was not typed but rather copied directly from the AW2K upload.. Which tells me the image is not on your webspace. Or your provider is currently down..

http://home.comcast.net/~ricktek/aw2k/Img144.gif

http://home.comcast.net/~ricktek/aw2k/Img152.gif

http://home.comcast.net/~ricktek/aw2k/Img148.gif

All three these URL's are from Auction id 200242342816.
