Importing Listings

I seem to be having trouble importing my listings, in that I want to include in th import the path to my images,so I won't have to go through each imported listing and reselect the picture for each one (I have thousands of listings). Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Dan

Images won't import. I can help you add images but they don't import

Re: Importing Listings new [re: bluepennylady]

Yikes! Sounds like I have my work cut out for me if I continue to use AW. Which I likely will, it is the best I've yet to find. And Ithat says a lot because 1) I have tried a lot of them, and 2) I worked for many years as a programmer for mission critical apps.

OK, next question... (!)

How can I change my view so I can see and group a bunch of listings or inventory items at the same time?

Thanks again for all your help.

Whoops, likes I just nswered that question myself. I do have a few others, though.

1. When using multiple EBay user IDs, how do you assign a specific user ID to a group of inventory items? (Would this mybe be the Category column?)
2. Is there a view where I can see what would be equivalent to a group of inventory listings?
3. How do I assign a group of inventory items to the correct Ebay store category? When I click on tghe pulldown menu for EBay store Cat, I don't see the categories for the EBay store I want, just the last one I used.

Re: Importing Listings new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

You will find all the "grouping" abilities in the Grid view. Select "Grid" on the center divider.

Select records you are wanting to alter, right click. All the available options will appear in the pop up menu.

When you say User id, are you referring to an Auction profile? Or are you referring to using the User defined fields to assign a value to the selected Auction lot or Inventory Items records?

In the Grid view any of the "Bold" headers when clicked will sort the records by the header topic. So you can group inventory categories (which are user defined), status, Reference Id (also user defined) Storage locations )another user defined value) or Consignor (again a user defined field)

The eBAy store categories are imported in the Auction lots tab.

Click on "Additional Fields" on an Auction lot
Right click on either one of the "STore categories" field and select "Import store categories from the pop up menu.

I hope that helps.

Re: Importing Listings new [re: bluepennylady]

Yes, by User ID I'm referring to your EBay user name.

What I mean about the EBay store categories is, my inventory will aloway refernce the apprpriate store category/ So if I am selling say a shirt with a Fireman on it, that inventory iitem will always refer to the EBay store category called Fireman Shirts.

Given that more information is imported with an auction lot, would it be better to import items as auction lots and then "convert" them to inventory items, complete with the necessary data?

Re: Importing Listings new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

YOu can create as many Auction profiles as you want. Even for a single user id for an eBAy store. For example. my daughter in law has 6 Auction profiles created for her eBAy store. Each Auction profile is for a weight class. And the shipping details are defined by default for the Profile. So when creating an Auction lot from the Inventory Item, she just selects the appropriate Auction profile for the item's weight.

I said all that to say that if a single Auction profile is not going to give you adequate control over a group of items etc. you can always consider creating profiles too.

The answer to your question about importing auction lots and converting to Inventory Items is Yes, If I were coming to your business to set you up, I would recommend importing all online Auction lots and then creating Inventory Items for the imported Auction lots adding whatever information needed when doing the Inventory Item.

Keep in mind that the "Reference Id" field in the Inventory Item can also be used to track inventory types.

Does that help at all?

Re: Importing Listings new [re: bluepennylady]

So are you saying that assigning an auction profile is similar to assigning an Ebay user ID to a set of inventory items?

Also having trouble with importing EBay categories into the inventory items. Can this be done? If not, is there a way to do a mass update to a set of selected items so I don't have to re-key the data in for each and every item?

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Importing Listings new [re: dwdwone]

Correction. The inability to import EBay cats was a deficiency in my old program. However, since I cannot import this column, is there a way to do a mass update to it? Problem is, I don't see the option to update the EBay categories when I right click to see a list of updateable columns.

And another question: It seems you can create onl one inventory item into an Auction Lot at a time. The term Lot implies a group, though, or a set. What am I missing here?

Re: Importing Listings new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

The Inventory Items tab is for organinzing product. The Auction profile is assigned when you create an Auction lot. An "Auction lot" is the term used to describe one listing. The Auction lot can be a qty 1 or whatever available qty you have to offer.

When you get ready to create an Auction lot from an inventory Item you are presented with a dialog box where you can choose which Auction profile you want to assign the Auction lot to. That is as long as you have created more than one Auction profile.

I think if you were to create a Stock Inventory item and then create an Auction lot it might make it clearer for you.

As far as the eBay store categories, you cannot import them on the inventory Items window, It must be done on the Auction lots window. And yes you can assign the eBay store categories enmasse after they are imported by using the "Grid view" selecting the records you want to assign and right click.

After you import the eBay store categories in, they will be available on the Inventory Items window for use on each inventory item ....

YOu will see the 1st and 2nd Store category fields on the Inventory Item Auction information down at the bottom.

When you create an Inventory Item record all the information is copied to an Auction lot including the image. A new image is not created but rather referenced. That saves considerable space in the database. You can override anything that is a default or even copied by going to the newly created Auction lot and simply changing whatever it is you want to change. You can even change the default Listing template if you want on the Auction lot after it is created.

Does that help?
