Networking

Is there any way for two people to list at the same time? Using the same database/ user id? Thanks, Karen

If you are asking if two people can use the same ID on eBay, yes, eBay would not know, although I don't think you could log in simultaneously on two different computers.

If you're asking if two people can share a copy of AuctionWizard, I don't think so. I've read here several times that an AW license is PER COMPUTER, so even with computers sharing the same home/same network, I think you have to pay for two copies of AW.

I guess what I am really asking is can the program handle two people entering data at the same time (even if it is necessary to buy another copy - that is fine). BUt with two copies would it use a single database for both. Can two different people enter auction items to the same database from different computers? I can't see how that would work with the id numbers, but thought I would ask if it was possible somehow.
Thanks for your answers.

I have no familiarity with networked computers, so someone else on this forum will have to answer that. You might not get any replies until next week (Labor Day weekend).

Hello

Yes two people can easily enter data at the same time

I run AW2000 in a network with 10 computers. At least 4 machines have people entering in new inventory items .. There are some caveats that need to be watched and managed

Feedback cannot be submitted at the same time email is being retrieved or Auctoin lots are listing or updating.

Two people cannot work on the same record at the same time. That causes BLOB errors (not cool)

Two people cannot list auction lots at the same time.

Here is how we handle the workflow. And it has worked well for years.

We create about 50 completely blank Inventory Items.. Let's say 1001 to 1050 and assign to staff member #1

Then 1051 to 1100 to staff member #2 etc

Each staff member can only work within their assigned block of inventory item numbers. They add pictures, descriptions etc. And it creates no conflicts with the other users. When the staff member has completely filled in all those Inventory Items the supervisor creats another block of Inventory items for them and they move to that block of numbers

Someone is alway working recording payments, updating and sending out notifications the whole time the other staff members are entering in Inventory items.

And all afternoon someone is working on re-doing the item specifics (again to be compliant with eBay changes ---- again and then queueing Auction lots.

You need to have one computer that acts as the server and no one works on.It is the "server" only. We run in a client to client network which works well

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions. I will be happy to help.

I don't have networked computers, but I just wanted to say I found your instructions fascinating, anyway. It's just amazing how you have this set up and that you were willing to share the system with other AW users. It also points out, yet again, how full-featured AW is.

Sue

AW2000 really is full featured.. Of course there are things I would love to have.. Like custom URL fields so the blue world on the auction lot could take you to the listing page.

Or the ability to edit the auction lot link in the website template instead of having to completely create a new template in HTML.But then the pure HTML is pretty cool so that works

and yes I would like to see support for some other sites too! We are a needy bunch aren't we
