Restoring purged & archived records.

First, I want to say that what I did was probably really, really dumb. When you think about it, the middle of a tax year doesn't seem like a good time to purge and archive records.

But I did.

Now as I begin to work on my Sales Tax Return, I wish I hadn't.

Can I somehow merge archived records into my current DB? Otherwise, it looks to me as if I should do the reports from my current DB, back it up, and restore the archived stuff (thus wiping out the current data), run the reports on the archived stuff, and then restore to the current data.

This sounds loony enough that I thought I'd ask first.

Ned,

Archiving is much better than Purging. At least in my books. Archive records can be restored. Purged records cannot be retrieved.

You can restore Archives at any time into your database. The utility will walk you through the process.

Always make a full backup prior to Archiving as well as restoring an Archive. Just in case. The "just in case" most likely will not happen but it is better to be prepared than not

I archive about three times a year. Your ledger will contain all your financial information. That is unless you archived ledger too.

Something you might consider for the future,,, you can always run your reports every quarter and keep those reports So if you archive you have everything you need up until that time. I hope that makes sense.

Judy--

A belated thank-you. The restoration went so smoothly I was off and doing other things so quickly I was off and doing other things without a second thought.

Ned,

Excellent news! I am so glad the archive restore went well. The utility is just pretty slick.
