Remember window size and position?

Hi all,
I have not used this software in quite a while and can't remember how to get it to remember the last size and position of the program. In other words, when you open the program it opens in a small window. You then manually drag it open to the size and position that you want it. How do you get it to remember that size and position. It frustrates me to no end for some reason. It always opens in such a tiny box, same thing with all the windows that open from inside the program. Or they open fullscreen which seems to bug me even more. LOL
I tried searching for a previous post for this and can't find any. Does anybody have any info on this? Thanks and have a great day! Nash

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

Welcome Back! Good to see you around again.

Rather than using the drag to move the frame larger, use the maximize button in the middle to open the program up to fit the entire monitor screen. When you use the Maximize button, then when you shut down AW2000, it will remember to open again full screen.

If you are still having trouble let me know and I will see if I can help.

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi Judy,
Thanks for your fast response!
That is not actually what I was looking for but thanks. When it is open full screen it is even more annoying. lol It is like looking at an Auction Wizard billboard from 2 feet away. I have a 24" widescreen monitor that runs at 1920x1200. What I was looking for is a setting, like in Windows, where it says "remember window size and position on close". You know how in Windows you can manually size a window, close it using the X in the top right corner and when you reopen it Windows remembers where you had it and what size it was? That is what I am looking for.
I could swear I remember AW2K doing that. Of course maybe at that time I had a smaller monitor and was just allowing it to open fullscreen. Hmm.. Oh well, not the end of the world. I will just resize it every time I open it. Thanks again for the fast response and have a great night. Nash

Hey, if anyone knows a registry hack for this could you please post it here. I will investigate it and if I find one i will post it here also.

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

Well now do I ever feel sillllyyyyyy I am so sorry...

That would look rather large on a 24 inch monitor.. Bet you can see everything though..

There is not a setting to define the opening size as you are wanting. I will pass the idea along to the AW2K tech team though.. Although, I do think that AW2K is suppose to remember the position and size of where you last closed the program.. I'll check for you and find out.. I know it does on my computers But I do not have any 24 inch monitors so I'll ask.

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,
Not at all, I appreciate the response and your time! :) I know it seems like a petty request but I am using the software a lot these days. I always really liked this software. I like the fact that you control everything and it is not server based. I love the inventory part of it the most. The window size thing only bugs me because all the windows within the software do the same thing.
There are a few old tricks to make a program remember window size. Sometimes you can hold the ALT key and click the X, sometimes it is the CONTROL key and click the X and sometimes it is necessary to manually close a program by going to the FILE menu and clicking EXIT or CLOSE for some programs to remember window size/position. Unfortunately none of these work with AW2K. :(
I remember a guy named Thom (I remember that spelling for some reason) used to answer tech questions via email. Does he still do that? Was a very nice guy that really knew technical stuff. Maybe he could tell me if there is a registry setting that I could change? Is he still around? Nash

Nash,

Yes Thom is still around. Technical issues are still addressed via email support. He is very nice and know what he is doing, that's for sure.

I like the Inventory Items window/tab as well.... We use it extensively.....

So you are starting to sell on eBay again! And what cool goodies do you sell???

Judy,
You really have cat like reflexes with those post replies! :) I hit the submit button and got an email that said someone had replied, awesome!
I recently sold a physical business and am getting back to online sales. I am working on a site now that is primarily focused on nutritional supplements and is geared toward an older demographic. I will be selling things like herbal supplements that help with specific conditions (fibro myalgia, high blood pressure, mental acuity, standard vitamin supplements, etc.). I will also be offering some medical devices, scales, blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, etc. I have a background in this type of business and really like to help people get quality information so they can find some relief.
I will be using ebay primarily for testing a lot of different products. If I am able to make a decent profit I will continue with ebay. Ebay is really great for this kind of testing. But, as I am sure you are already aware of, the margins can be tough there. My true passions are SEO, conversion and helping people solve their health issues through alternative means. I will probably maintain an eBay store with the help of AW2K.
I looked at your store in your signature. Very nice! Looks like you really know what you are doing! Is it going well for you? Have a great day. Nash

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

well I will respond quickly if I am working online as the AW2000 board is always running in a browser

What an interesting business! My husband likes the herbal approaches to health issues and for just good health maintenance. I think there is an excellent market for that type of product.

Anytime I have listed anything like that, it has sold right off the bat.. That type of product and baby products sell like crazy.

I don't know if I know what I am doing but we sure have fun! Couldn't do it without AW2000 though. Be way too hard.. eBay sales drive a ton of traffic to us both to us directly, our wholesale and to the retail store. Which is what we wanted it to do.. eBay is a great companion for our business model..

Be sure you keep up with the changes eBay is getting ready to make. Some are on hold, some are going forward, It has become an almost daily event to keep pace with them

Let me know when you are listing. I would dearly love to see your goodies!

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,

I will let you know when I list for sure!

Yes I have been reading a little about these crazy eBay changes. LOL They have really lost it over at eBay haven't they! Well, I guess they really want to be AmazonBay. ;) It is really pretty simple to me. Bottom line is I don't really care what they do. I can either make money in their marketplace or I can't. I would of course feel differently about it if I were already established there like you are. Then I would be watching them like a hawk! :0 I hope their craziness won't effect your business negatively.

Quick question for you. You said that you are able to drive a lot of traffic from eBay to your main site. Do you do this through follow up email from eBay sales? Do you maintain a email relationship with your customers after they purchase on eBay? Do you utilize the newsletter function of your eBay store? Does that actually get any activity? (I have always wondered that) How do you get them to move from eBay to your main site? I have heard other people say that they are able to acquire a lot of traffic from eBay but I never really understood how. I always kind of saw it as kind of a self-contained sales venue. I am obviously mistaken. Would love to hear your views on this. Nash

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

Contrary to what most people think (and post at eBay) I don't think the changes are necessarily all bad.. Some of the changes were a swift kick in our back side as I knew we needed to change pieces of our business model over a year ago. And just hadn't got it done. DSR's pushed the issue..

Some of the other changes being introduced, well it remains to be seen how they will affect us down the road. Presently,, we are still going along just fine. Although I will say the "Findings" changes still do not have the bugs worked out of it. but it is getting better.

I only watch the changes so closely because some of the items on my Listing template are non-compliant as far as links and email addresses when and if ebay actually makes the changes..

eBay does provide a good flow of buyers to us.. First I use the Auction Wizard 2000 configured websites and upload after I have concluded listing for the day.. that pushes quite a bit of traffic.

My email address displayed in my Listing template, is a big traffic pusher. Prospective buyers routinely email me on a daily basis asking about product. Or if I have more.

We insert lots of promotional flyers in our packages.. Business card with our website and email addy. Packing slip with sale items, email address, website URL, etc.

My shipping notices and Feedback thanks email asks if the buyer would like to be added to our private email list. And we explain what we use the email list for. I have over 300 buyers on that list I email once a week.

My emails are not just promoting my auctions but have some informational value too. Like some tidbit about computer maintenance like blowing the dust bunnies out of the case. Or something like that. So the buyers like to get them.

I do use the email marketing at eBay too. Buyers seem to read them... And I post what we are listing every week on my blogs complete with Stores to go widgets and/or links back to the listing pages in the store.

Our shipping notices verbage has been changed to encourage the buyer to feel free to email us if they need something later. Or more of what they bought. And they do email. Buyers even send their friends to us directly.

If someone wants to look at something, a lot of time, we give them the link on our website instead of a link back to the eBay listing page. Of course if it isn't on our website we send them the eBay listing page link and use the "?refid=store" tag on the URL if the item is a Store listing so if they buy it we can get a Store referral credit back.

and yes we maintain email relationships with our eBay customers after they purchase from us. It takes only a minute to send someone a "how are you doing. we have missed you email".. I use Mail bomber for that.. It is an okay email program.. I would like to have something which works with AW2000 invoices so I could just export a single record or group of Invoice records instead of copy and paste. But Mail Bomber works okay.

Sorry, didn't mean to talk your leg off..

Judy,
When it comes to any kind of marketing you could never talk my leg off. I love this stuff! It really sounds like you have your marketing act together. I also read your About US page and I have to say, I really admire your perseverance and dedication. You really seem to enjoy what you do and I think that is one of the most important things in life.
“First I use the Auction Wizard 2000 configured websites and upload after I have concluded listing for the day.. that pushes quite a bit of traffic.” I never saw the value in this particular feature in AW2K. I guess I never understood how it was different than sending someone to your eBay store. I am really curious as to how this helps you. From what I could see you don’t sell directly from this page right? The page directs them back to your store for actual purchase? Is it that the items are more organized so people can shop them better? Does it get people who have bought at auction into your store? Is it that it shows new items listed only? I always thought it was a really cool feature but could never figure out a definitive purpose for it. Of course I have been known to tear the house apart looking for my keys with my keys in my hand. LOL Maybe you could explain the value to me that I am sure I am missing?
I actually agree with you about what eBay is doing. I don’t really think they are doing anything all that “wrong”. In all honesty, the reason I referred to it the way I did is that usually if you mention it to anyone who sells on eBay they tend to get very heated about the subject. You are actually the first person I have spoken with who doesn’t think it is the end of auctions and possibly even the end of the world. :) I think it is really as simple as them wanting to change their business model a bit and grow with the times. I think they know what is going to happen to them if they just sit on their hands. Sometimes change is good. I guess we will all see soon enough. Nash

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

We love what we do.. Hard work, long hours and never know what the next day will bring. In fact, my husband is off again tomorrow afternoon on another buying trip. Bringing home another semi of goodies. third one in two weeks. I haven't even got through the first one yet!

People like to see "pictures' and things ordered... the AW2K configured websites are real search engine friendly. ANd the eBay store link properly configured is Store Referral credit eligible which earns me back 75% of the Final Value Fee. That isn't anything to sneeze at. I make back quite a bit every month in Store Referral credits.

Typing in a URL into a browser address bar is often a task lots of people cannot do. We take for granted that our skill levels are the same as others and that is often not the case at all. Most people will use the "Search engine" box to type in a URL instead of into the address bar. So if they have to mess with a URL or link to an Auction listing page, they won't do it. Have a picture with a link to the page, that's easy. click and bid.

There is almost as much traffic from my website back to my eBay store as there is from those that find me in a MSN search.

Driving traffic to your eBay store is a good thing as there is a lot of marketing behind eBay's platform.

I really need to add more of our email address links on my website and put our phone number back up. I took it off months ago because the phone calls were getting out of hand. But in hindsight, that was a bad move and we are going to put it back up again. Especially since Ebay wants sellers to put their phone number in their listings.

Anyway,, we actually do sell off our website. It is amazing how many people email us wanting to know how many of x item do you have. They need 25 do I have them. Yes I do, here's the cost, send me your shipping information, I create an invoice in AW2K, send them a total amount due invoice from AW2K which contains a Paypal PayNow URL link, they pay, we ship.. Happens almost every day of the week.. At least once or twice a day.. Which is kind of mind boggling..

I am not really very good at marketing at all. I am not creative when it comes to thinking up an original idea. I can develop ideas though. And I am very analytical and methodical by nature. But I take every marketing class I can get into and read tons of material on it

Nah, you wont get me heated up on the changes. I have worked with some of the upper management on some of this stuff. And regardless of what the community says, the eBay management is geniunely attempting to make changes which will grow the marketplace. If the sellers don't sell and make money, they don't make money. So the venue has to grow and expand.

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,
Ahh.. See now that makes perfect sense to me. So you are saying that your products show up on the search engines by creating those pages. You are using the configured websites as an SEO tool. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that (I did warn you about the looking for the keys thing right?). That is really smart. Is that what its intended use is? I must have missed that when I first read the AW2K info. It was quite a while ago I must admit. I am definitely going to use that part of the program now. Thanks so much for explaining it to me!

When I first purchased AW2k several years ago I was using it strictly to list auctions and nothing else (I did use the email, templates etc). I did not have a store so I did not use any of those functions. My inventory was not consistent so I never got to utilize the full functionality in that respect either. I guess I really missed a lot of the true power of this program.

I never would have realized the trick about the store credit rebate unless you mentioned it. So, please correct me if I am wrong here, the search engines pick up your products and direct prospects to your site. The prospective customer then clicks on the link to your store item. This link is configured as a store link so you are able to be refunded 75% of the final value fee. Is that accurate? Is the link automatically configured when generated by AW2K or do you need to manually configure them? Isn’t any link that goes back to your store a store referral link?

I would have to disagree with the statement about you not being a very good marketer. It is my understanding that it’s not the people who have a ton of original ideas that do all that well. It is the person that takes time tested, fundamentally sound, proven systems and implements them into their own particular niche that is a solid marketer. I could be wrong but it sure looks like that is what you are doing to me.

Thanks for your help! I am working on the configured website right now. Nash

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

The Store referral credit URL links are tricky.. The viewer MUST allow cookies. Use to any link clicked outside of ebay would qualify but they changed that a few years back.. Now to be CERTAIN the URL qualifies you need to add a tag to that URL link. That tag being the "?refid=store" tag..

here is the URL link to the eBay help file which explains how to properly configure those links.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/specialtysites/referral-credit-steps.html

The links within the website thumbnail pages need the ?refid=store tag added to the end. The text for the link to the Auction page can also have that tag added to it. However, I am not a coder and have never been able to figure out how to make the "viewitem?refid=store" not to appear at the end of the link. [cry] I do know that a huge part of my Store referral credits come from people clicking through the thumbnail pages.

Things grow dynamically in terms of what works the best for Organic natural search engine results. Meta tags use to be the thing. Anchor text works much better now than the Meta tags. And I am really behind the eight ball as I have almost no anchor text. But the little bit I do have pulls up higher in Organic search engine results. I have to get busy and add more anchor text tags on my pages.... (and re-do opening lines too as the opening lines which pull up high have changed a bit as well)

The other thing I do is all my AW2K email templates have links to my website, eBay store and email address so every buyer has easy access to them.

My inventory isn't consistent at all. We never know what or how many of something we will have come in. But I like the Inventory Items tab/window really well. My staff can work on seasonal goods now adding a few each day so we will be ready for the proper selling season. Those Inventory Items can just wait peacefully in the Inventory Items tab until I am ready to list as opposed to creating Auction lots and then needing to hide them or something. Plus there are certain reporting features which will not work for an item if there is no related Inventory Item. So we use Inventory Items for even one thing..

You got it for the STore referral credit. That is exactly correct. Two months ago my Store referral credit was really big. I spent a lot of time promoting my store off eBay and it paid off. I did several email campaigns using my Mail Bomber program and Constant Contact. Those campaigns had the Store referral qualifying links back to certain store listings. The listings sold and I got Store Referral credits too. makes it worth your time to market your auctions off ebay..

The AW2000 configured websites and the SEO just kind of evolved. It was actually developed as a marketing tool as you can elect to show listings on a page prior to listing them so buyers can see what is going to be listed next week or whatever you decide to do.. Then the listings move automatically to another page when the listings are actually listed. SEO just sort of ended up being an unknown side benefit.. I know that after I update my AW2K website that alot of time those who get RSS feeds will be notified my website has updated and changed. And the proper verbage on the thumbnail page also is search engine friendly. You'll just have to mess around with what text works for your products. And since you like to mess around with SEO, you will have a ball with it..

I hope that helps some..

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,

You have really good timing. I was actually working on this right now. :0 And I am confused.
I think I am still missing something here. If I go to your site and randomly click on something; This for example: http://iruvul.pair.com/joglesby/aw2k/Clothing.html If I click on the link to your store for the first item at the top, the hat, I don’t see the (viewitem?refid=store) code in that link. Are you saying that it does not need the link because it is going straight to the store? It is only the items currently at auction that needs that link? Is that right? Bare with me Judy... I am a little slow sometimes. LOL But I do notice that in your signature on this page you do use the code. I have really confused myself now.

"The text for the link to the Auction page can also have that tag added to it. However, I am not a coder and have never been able to figure out how to make the "viewitem?refid=store" not to appear at the end of the link. [cry]" Can you show me an example of this. Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

WELLLLLL. I haven't changed the actual individual links on the thumbnail pages because I haven't ever been able to figure out how to make the "viewitem?refid=store to not appear. The link looks sort of weird...

On the Website thumbnail page in "edit" mode. click on the "page body.. You will see Listing link text...

It reads [Click here for listing on <#AuctionSiteName

You can change it to [Click here for listing on <#AuctionSiteName>viewitem?refid=store]

But the "viewitem?refid=store? text always shows up...

What I am saying is I have never ever been able to figure out how to hide the viewitem?refid=store in the hyperlink... And believe me, I am super tenacious. I have worked on it for a very long time... So hence those links do not have ?refid=store on them.. All the other links do like my link to "visit my eBay store in the header and footer areas.. Etc.. They seem to qualify for the Store referral credits because if I send a buyer to an item from my website, the Store referral credits always appear in my account.

I converted a couple of the Website thumbnail pages to pure HTML and tried re-coding the links that way but never got the ?refid=store to hide. It may not ever hide. I just thought that perhaps it would work like a <a href> and the code part would not appear just the text. I hope that makes more sense. If anyone ever shoves me in the right direction once, I'll be able to figure it out and fix it. But like I said, a coder I am not just a wanna be

I am really sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you. I apologize. That was not my intention.

No it wasn't you, I think I confused myself. That is kind of what I thought but when I didn't see the links on your site I kind of got lost.

So correct me if I am wrong. In order to get store credit a link that comes from outside ebay must have that tag in it no matter what, correct?

When you add the code on the thumbnail page. Are you saying that the code shows up on top of the thumbnail? Or does it show up in anchor text? I don't think I can generate one to look at it because I don't have anything listed at the moment.

Judy,

Sorry I posted just as you reposted. I understand now. It is in the anchor text. Wow, that is really strange. I assume you have asked Thom about a solution to that.

The only thing that comes to my mind that might be able to fix that would be a link encrypter. I did a lot of affiliate work and used to use a program that would hide anything you wanted in a link. You have probably thought of that though. I don't even know if it would work in this case. That is really very strange. How long have you been trying to hide that ridiculous looking thing? Nash

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Judy,
Are you sure that link even works (gives you credit)? I looked at your HTML on this page.

Take a look for yourself; right click on the page and click “view source”. Scroll down a little bit and look at the link for this “OK industries Replacement wire Blade”. If you notice the HTML it says;
//// <P ALIGN=CENTER><FONT FACE="Lucida Sans" SIZE="3"><AHREF="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350075236986">[Click here for listing on eBay Storesviewitem?refid=store]</A></FONT>/////

The code shows up in the anchor text but not in the link. This may just be a glitch in the software. Maybe I am wrong; you take a look at it. Just to be sure I pulled it up in an HTML editor. The code is definitely not in the link. I think what happened here is the programmer messed up a little. It is supposed to add it to the link (as an option) and not show up in the anchor text but the person just coded it wrong. This would be a super easy fix for them to do. Literally would take the person who wrote the code 5 minutes to fix if they knew exactly what the problem was.

If that is not an option, I have another idea for a fix. If it really drives you nuts and you feel there is a lot of value in having the links there. Go to a site like www.guru.com or www.odesk.com and outsource a programmer to write you a little program to fix this. I can’t imagine it would cost you more than $40 to $60 dollars. It would probably be a very small program that you would have to execute every time AW2K took an update. I am guessing here, I am not a programmer. I do have some experience with stuff like this though. I have a few good buddies that are programmers. When I talk to one of them next time I will ask about this.

Was Thom the man who wrote this software? If you have access to him I would think he could fix this for you pretty easily. Although, I could be wrong about this whole thing, it has happened before. :)
I hope this helps. Nash

Yep I have stared at the HTML 100 times or more in the "View
Source"....

Although, I see the referral credits in my account. And the sales are things that are uploaded on my website so the buyer's have to click the AW2K listing page links, I have never been 100% certain.. I cannot tell you that I am. But I can say for sure that if I send someone a link to the thumbnail page on my website and they enter my eBay store from there and purchase the item, the Store referral credit appears in my account.

I will be honest,, I have never understood that part at all. The links do not have the ?refid=store tag on the URL but the Store referral credit are appearing..

It doesn't drive me too nuts. I converted a couple of templates to pure HTML and play with them sometimes to see what I can do. Most the HTML code I can get around in especially with my reference books. This particular link thing has always "kicked my tail"

I'll ask Thom about it. I geninuely do not recall if I have ever mentioned it to him or not.. Geez to have back my under 50 mind

Thanks for all the digging around you have done. Gosh, my rambling on has sure created a ton of work for you..!

On the bright side, the AW2K websites do drive traffic to your listings. And it is a super good marketing tool.

I use to have a "What's new" link and page on my website. I didn't think anyone ever looked at it so I pulled the page down. Bad thing to do. It wasn't a month after I did it people started emailing asking what happened to my "What's new" page. They liked it. I would Queue new stuff for listing way in advance and display it on the "What's new" page for a few days. Folks really liked looking through it. Probably should get in gear and get it back up again.

Judy,

Oh well, thought I was on to something there for you. You would think that they could not show up the way they are coded. Maybe AW2K is trickier than we think. :) If you do manage to get it fixed let me know. I would love to kow what the fix was.

I really appreciate all the great info! I am sure I will eventually be back here bothering you with some crazy question. Thanks again and have a great night. Nash

Nash,

Oh my, you might be on to something. I will dig into it further and try to figure out something. And I'll run it past Thom too. Sometimes, he just shakes his head at me and will provide the easiest solution... Then I wonder "Why didn't I think of that"

Honestly, thank you ever so very much for the help and insight. I am glad I am not the only one that thinks it doesn't look right at all Which is why I never added the tag to the URL. Thought it looked way too strange. And wasn't sure it was even right.

You are not bothering me at all. So don't worry about that. I love this kind of stuff. I am totally addicted!!

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

May have found a solution to the ?refid=store issue in the link...

Garry figured out where the ?refid=store needs to be placed in order for it to show up in the status bar and qualify the link for a Store Referral credit.. The next thing is to get the "refid=store" not to show up in the link text on the website thumbnail page...

We are working on it! Let you know later.....

Have a great day!!

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: Nash]

Nash,

Okie dokie... Here's the scoop on the ?refid=store tag in the link string.

The website thumbnail template MUST be converted to pure HTML.

Add the ?refid=store right behind <#listingnumber> So it reads <A HREF="<#ListingURL>?refid=store">[Click here for listing on <#AuctionSiteName>]</A>

Refid=store does not show up in the link and when you put your mouse cursor on it, you can see the qualifying link requirements displayed in the browser status bar.

Garry is the one that came up with the fix.. we worked on it this morning for a while until we both got it right! I told you, shove me in the right direction and I can figure it out from there. But sometimes I need a two handed shove

I hope that makes sense. If it doesn't let me know and I'll try to do better!

Re: Remember window size and position? new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,
That is really great! I am going to pretend like I came up with that fix though... It will make me feel good! LOL :) I am definitely going to use that when I get everything straightened out over here. So glad you figured out a workaround.

Well, I got my answer from Thom today. “The AW2000 program does not remember to size and position of its main window. There is no way to set the size or position of the main window when running the program.”

And then I replied with this question because I am obviously an obsessive compulsive lunatic. :0 “Thanks for the response. Don't mean to be a pain here but you said "its main window". Is there a way to get the other windows inside the program to remember size/position? Like the edit template windows etc.?”

He responded: “None of the windows in AW2000 remember their position or size.”

LOL, I am such a nutcase sometimes! Oh well, was worth a shot.

Have a great day! Nash

Nash,

I don't think you are a compulsive lunatic at all. In fact, had you not posted the inquiry on the Auction Wizard discussion board, well, we would not have met. I would not have been knocked off dead center to get someone to help figure out how to correct the store referral link so it qualifies for credit. All sorts of good things have come from one simple question...

See all the good your compulsive behaviour has done!
