I just reported this to Thom, and sent him my logs, but I wanted to make sure other sellers knew about this in case it affects them.

Sometimes after 7/29, the "make this item eligible for shipping discount based on my ebay preferences" apprears to have stopped working for me. Thom checked my logs and the "toggle" is, in fact, being sent to Ebay. But the resulting listing does not have the option checked.

I've been able to do a batch-update via Ebay and turn the option back "on". I only discovered the problem after having to refund several customers who were over-charged shipping. The preferences themselves are set correctly at ebay - it's just the "on/off" toggle on the individual auctions that seems to be the problem.

Everything listed prior to 7/29 seems to have worked fine, but currently I can't get any store or fixed price auctions to list with the ebay shipping discounts turned on.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Yes I am seeing the same issue. As far as the shipping discount getting turned off. It is an eBay glitch. The power seller board is full of sellers having the same problem.. UPS is not calculating correctly, Preferences are not being applied to auctions. It is not just AW2K users having the problem. Even those using other third party software are also having the same thing happen.

I have been communicating with an eBay technician since July 30. The bottom line, they cannot pin down what is causing the issue. Not all the surprising

Do you mean the Auction lots are failing to list with the shipping discount preference selected? Or do you mean the options just isn't posting to the auction lots. As I have not had any listings fail though. The option is selected on all my Auction lots. But I will go back through my listings and see if I find any. And let you know.

The auction lots are failing to list with the shpping discount selected. The rest of the shipping settings seem to be fine, and if I edit the auctions and turn the shipping discount setting "on", it seems to work like it should. Auctions and store item's listed prior to 7/29 are set correctly, and seem to be working correctly (the discount is both ON and calculating properly).

Thom just wrote me and said that aw2k is definitely posting the correct information, so it does indeed look like an ebay glitch.

I'm just glad its not something on my end ..lol.

Well, please let us know any other info you find. I have a few hundred store items about to expire.

As an aside....you can do a bulk edit via ebay of just that toggle. It's not quick, and it's not something I'd like to do often, but it is a temporary workaround. I did that for all items listed after 7/29.

I was messing around changing shipping options this morning. They all listed fine, store, Fixed price as well as regular core auctions. And that setting is selected.

But the discount preference did not list. It is going definitely posting to eBay but it is not displayed when I went into "Revise" to check.

I know the silly thing has been working though. I wish to heaven eBay would stop messing with this stuff and let it alone. About the time they get one thing fixed, three other things break down.

I am so sorry you are having to edit everything though. that is pitiful! On the bright side, at least there is a bulk editor... EVen if it is slow and cumbersome..

I found the easiest way to check without having to go into revise mode is to look for a line of text down by the top of the shipping section that says: "XXX for each additional eligible item you buy from XXX!"

In my case, everything past the first item ships free - it's a really big difference for most of my orders, which are usually multiple item.

In case you have to do this, one thing I noticed in the bulk editor is that after you select the "fixed price discounts", you are asked to select a "shipping profile". I don't use that (and aw2k doesn't support them), so I selected the first "blank" in the pull-down. Suprisingly (and happily), it worked and turned the option "on" :-)

I also went thru a manual SYI to see if anything apparent has changed, and it all looked the same to me. Both of the shipping discounts (discounts and promotional) are toggled OFF by default. Far as I can tell, there's no way to change the "default" - you gotta click the box.

Boy editing the listings can be a trick .. The drop down menu when selecting "Edit" for the Shipping discounts, did not always have the blank value in it. There was only "Default Profile" or "Remove profile"...

The only way I got the Shipping discounts to go through in the Bulk Editor was to go through and click "Remove profile" then go back and select "Default Profile" If I left it on "Default Profile" without switching, nothing would change on the listings..

I checked all the Auction lots I submitted this afternoon, none of them have the "Shipping discounts" applied. I edited several pages of listings.

At least we know others are experiencing the same thing.

A little update...

I listed 10 items 2 days ago, and edited all 10 (in batch) to correct the shipping discount toggle. I thought I had double-checked each one to make sure the edit "stuck".

This morning I notice I sold 3 of the new listings, and the customer paid via paypal - and NO shipping discount was applied. I check each of those 3 listings, and each of them has the discount toggle turned OFF. Is this a glitch, or early onset dementia?

Immediately I check the other 7. Those are all turned ON. Amazing coincidence that the 3 that sold happened to be OFF.

So the question I have this morning is whether there is yet another ebay glitch in play here where the option actually changes.

As a test, I double checked the 8 listings from last night, and also uploaded, edited, and checked another 48 store listings I did this morning.

If I sell any of these items, and the discount toggle changes, I'll let you know!

Another problem I had, possibly related, is another buyer had a problem with insurance. Now, I don't offer insurance for most items, and my pref is set to "no". But when I generated a buy invoice this morning for several items, the insurance was set to ON, REQUIRED, and was $12.51 (for a $15 invoice).

I check each item, insurance is set to "not offered". My insurance pref for combined orders was set to "buyers choice", and should have been $1.70. Very odd.

As my final glitch of the day...(this one has been reported on the boards and ebay is "working on it")

Every time someone buys an item (store or fixed price) that has multiple quantities, instead of getting the usual "you sold an item" email, I get a "item ended" email, even though the item is still listed...

YOu and I can suffer "dementia" together as the same thing is happening to my listings.. I edited... Checked. all is well. However, next morning, discount rule is again unselected....

So I edit again. This time taking great care to record each and every auction lot.... Yes, it works. Later in the day,, discount rule is unchecked again.

SOOO0000, I decided to contact live help.. I get hold of a real non-tech rep who hasn't the faintest what the API is... Their response, "You must select "Apply my discount rule" when configuring the shipping on every auction listing" AND "unfortunately you cannot set up discounts in your Preferences"

WHAT! you must be kidding. Have you ever looked at My preferences | Shipping discount rules... And I KNOW the apply rule must be checked. It is and it keeps getting unchecked.

We look at listing after listing. It FINALLY hits them something is wrong. So they promptly transferred me to tech.. And I am still waiting

8-9 Glitch update -

- API still not working as of this morning, so no "discount" is being applied to listings.

- I've had about 15 completed sales from last night - all multiple item sales, many on my newest listings, and the "edits" have stuck, and shipping discounts were applied.

- I've rechecked all of my recent listings and all the edits have stuck.

- The incorrect emails (listing ends instead of items won) have stopped, and the correct emails have restarted.

- No insurance issues.

So...right now at least for me, the only remaining issue is the initial application of the discount option...

The eBay tech support told me the fix would not be completely rolled out until early Monday morning. They will test it bright and early to be sure all is well.

Just heard back from tech ----

The first level techs are having a pickle of a time getting the engineers to believe there is a problem with the API calls' Which there is and the first level techs know there is.

Then this morning, the engineers finally figured out there is a problem with the API calls... Go figure.. So the engineers are back working on it again...

Hopefully they will get it resolved....There is no ETA on fixing it though..

Is there EVER really an ETA? I mean, here they've been saying the problem will be fixed by Monday, and then you find out that the ones in charge of fixing it, didn't even acknowledge there was a problem until this morning (Tuesday).

Somewhere along the line Ebay tech support either stopped being truthful as a matter of policy, or stopped having any idea what is really going on.

Well, hopefully they'll fix this!

I told the tech the most frustrating part of dealing with issues on eBay is getting someone to listen and then that tech to take the time to really honestly check it.. There are always the pat answers that it is the Listing tool you are using. And if I were to use eBay's tool, I would not be experiencing it. Or blah, blah, blah.

And you know, this first level tech told me he got just as frustrated sometimes as the engineers do not listen to them either about half the time. I gave the engineers auction id numbers I had just listed, along with listinglog and HTTP logfiles to support the API calls AW2000 used. Supplied the date when the discounts stopped working. Gave them Auction id numbers for the day before (July 28) and the discounts were correctly applied.

By george, something isn't right... And it is eBay..

I agree completely, they just stopped being responsible and truthful. Because there is some instances when accepting responsibility would indicate reimbursements for listing fees for a certain time frame. I don't think they will go there... So just don't admit the problem exists at all.

Just heard from eBay tech... The technician I have had the privilege of working with has finally been able to re-produce the discount listing issue on the engineers computers.. So now that they "know" exactly where the problem is, they can get a fix for it...That is the good news.

The not so good news,,,, it could be the first week of September before a full fix is rolled out... Those techs and engineers have their hands full with a ton of site issues.. And I think that perhaps combined shipping discounts not being applied in the listing process isn't top on the list of "Gotta get it fixed" in the next week.

But then you never know.. They might get it fixed by tomorrow. Just never know..

So here's hoping for a full fix this week..!!! Go eBay techs!

well another new and improved update from eBay tech.. The first level techs has managed to get it through to the eBay engineers the discount issue is rather urgent..

At last word, the issue had been bumped up to a priority level and the fix is expected to be released middle of next week..

SOooooo, I guess we are all going to have to continue to edit all newly listed Auctions until the "Apply discount rule" is corrected on eBay's side of the world...

At least we know that they know and are working on it.

I just received an email from eBay tech support.. The fix is being rolled out as we speak for the combined shipping discount bug... It is suppose to be completed by the End of the Day today.. However, it could be the weekend before we see the fix throughout the entire site in all Auction formats..

API error still occurring - and I just had the old "discount change on the fly" occur to 2 of my store items.

What's interesting is that both of these items have been previously sold over the last 30 days to multiple buyers, in multiple quantity combined purchases, and up until the purchases today, the discount was working. But as of this morning, these 2 items no longer show as having the discount applied.

I had to kill those 2 items and re-list, and then re-edit them.

Is ebay trying to get everyone to just offer free shipping?

I have heard from eBay technicians this morning concerning the API applyshippingdiscount issue... The fix is not yet rolled out. There is a problem with it....

Currently the next projected "fix" date is the End of Day on 8/26/08.

They promised to keep me posted.. I can say this ---. the technician has been very proactive and responsive attempting to resolve the issue.. I really wish they would post the issue on the system board though as the issue does affect combined shipping discounts as well as the buyer's ability to group purchases together for a single payment...

A while ago I was here on the forum posting that the combined shipping wasn't working in my listings. I've been editing all my listings, and yes, I still have to re-insert the background img tag because eBay removes it every time I edit. If I'm able to use the edit checkbox that works good, but if I have a listing with multiple items and one was purchased I have to manually edit the listing.

Anyway, I'm here because I just can't stand it anymore. I am setting my shipping options, $2.50 1st Item and zero for additional, and checking the box "apply shipping discounts". And it is not working. Hasn't worked since I was here before. I have to edit EVERY listing I make with AW2K.

Are you saying that you have your shipping set to a Flat Rate of $2.50 with $0.00 for each additional item and the Auction lots do not list with those values?

Or are you saying they list with those values and yet when a buyer goes through checkout at eBay, they are charged something else?

Forgive me if I ask obviously dumb questions but I want to be sure... You do have a Flat Shipping rule defined in your "My eBay preferences"?? Just a single rule. not multiples? And what is the Flat Rate rule you have defined?

Hi Judy, yes, my shipping is set to flat rate, and I have one combined shipping rule. My desire is to charge largest 1st shipping amount and nothing for anything else.

The flat rate shipping rule is: Charge the highest shipping cost for one item and add an amount for each additional item (free).

I have set a calculated shipping rule also, but I don't have any listings that are calculated. I checked to see if I can delete that setting but it won't let me.

Does this make sense?

You go into the Program options in the lower right hand corner, check "Generate HTTP log".

No worries... I didn't mean to insinuate I couldn't give you a hand with this... My sister is actually having Thanksgiving at her house this year which works great for me. It is just everyone comes to my house to do all the cooking, like the pies, noodles, etc. It is a tradition.. All grandkids and the girls all come on Wednesday night and we bake half the night away. Kids LOVE it. Last year the two little boys had to be vacuumed off as they ended up looking like little Pillsbury dough boys all covered in flour. They were so adorable!

It is a lot of work for me but it sure creates wonderful memories for Dale and I as well as all the kids.. My kids still remember the Wednesday night baking nights and they are in the 30's. In fact, Neil is out of town-- he called and wanted to know if we were still having family bake night Wednesday. Of course we are.. And he is now on the road heading back from North Dakota as he said "I AM NOT missing baking night!""

Both. I have only one flat rate rule now, same for both international and domestic. Free for additional items.

When I list it shows "discount available" on multiple items listings. But that only applies to that listing. When someone buys multiples of more than one listing it's $2.50 for each listing.

And did you check to see how many days you allow buyers to shop and group goodies together for a combined shipping discount. Like 1 or 5 or 7 days? I do not recall all the choices but I do know you can choose at least 7 days, 14 days or 30 days. There are other choices, I just don't remember exactly what they are..

So how many days is that set to?

Try one more thing, and I know you do not want your shipping option this way, since you are editing the listings, let's see if this works.

Go back into your Flat Rate Shipping rule and change the additional item ships for $0.00 t0 $1.00. Then list one auction using the same setting on just that one auction. Addit'l item ships $1.00 and see if the combined shipping displays on the auction lot.

If you will look at the shipping box on that last listing, the message to buyers "This seller offer combined shipping" or Each additional item ships for "Free" from this seller" did not appear.

All my listings have that message displayed. So I am wondering if the field value set to $0.00 is problematic.

Let me be sure I am not misunderstanding.. You listed this Auction id 190268809406 and then edited it and checked "Apply shipping discount" in the Revise your item form. So now it displays "Save on shipping, buy additional items from this seller's listings"

Auction id number 190269392556 is what you just listed yesterday and it has not yet been edited, correct? But the shipping displays, "Free shipping for each additional eligible item you buy from stylebycher!" Yet when you go into Revise your Item, "Apply shipping discount" is not checked on this particular listing?

Just a question though, if you offer free shipping on additional items, and you have your flat rate shipping rule set to $0.00, then why wouldn't that work for me?

I really don't know. We know the "Apply shipping discount" is being uploaded to eBay. So something on eBay in the settings is causing the setting to be unchecked. I am just changing preference settings around to find what that might be.

My Flat rate rule is to charge the highest price and $1.00 for each additional item. However, in AW2K, I can set the Shipping service to Free Shipping and $0.00 for each additional item shipped and the "Apply shipping discount" is checked. The message inside the Shipping terms on eBay displays additional items ship for only $1.00 on eligible items purchased from bluepennylady

When the buyer goes through checkout, they will just pay for the item and not an $1.00 for each additional item. The setting in AW2K overrides my preference settings which is the way it is designed to work.

So I am wondering if the $0.00 value in your preferences is a factor. It might not be at all.

Here is an update, I'm on the phone with eBay as we post here. Since you've been working with me on this I've been keeping a close eye on my listings, making sure the shipping discount box is checked. Today there were several that I know I changed yesterday that again today had that box unchecked. I figured that I had just screwed up an not clicked submit. So I fixed them. Then I fixed that new one that I listed for you last night, the green pearls. I checked the listing to make sure it showed the message. Later, I looked at the listing and that shipping discount message was gone, so I edited it again, and the box had become unchecked. This time I know that I had fixed it before.

So, are you ready for this, eBay says that several users have reported this same issue, of the shipping rule box becoming unchecked all by itself. I am now on a list to have that bug fixed. So they say.

I am so sorry that I've put you through this when it wasn't AW2K in the first place! You have been so kind to help me so much. I hope you are not mad at me :(

My word, no I am not mad at you.. I am glad you called them. I was going to contact tech tomorrow about it and see what they said..

That is really weird how only some users listings are affected and not others. The last time this happened it was everyone that was affected. But they did get it fixed. eventually
