Backup copy on CD new

Last night, after reading various computer gurus warn that doomsday was nigh (the conficker virus), I was scrambling to copy files and folders to CDs before my computer clock clicked over to April 1st. Ha ha, silly me. The worm seems to be a little wimpy.

Anyway, I discovered my AW Database folder is now way, way too big for a single 80-minute CD. So I purged and archived everything prior to Jan. 1 2008, and it's still too large (939 MB). I really don't want to delete any archived files (461 MB), so I guess the solution would be to copy the Database files minus the Archive folder. Is that what most of you do? Just make backup copies of the Archive on one disk and the rest of the Database files on another disk?

By the way, I also copy the program to an external drive every few days, run the AW Backup utility every two days, and create a ghost image of my whole computer every day. So I'm pretty well covered, but it's still comforting to have the data on a CD.

Sue,

I put my database on a DVD.

You can burn a CD without the Archive folder. Make a separate CD of just the Archive and then one of the Database.

Unless you make changes to the Archive folder, you do not have to burn a CD or DVD everytime. It is a good idea to burn a CD or DVD of it, but you can get by without doing so. Just remember to burn a copy of it every so often and keep it so you have it available if you should need it.

I shouldn't write questions when I'm tired. I have a DVD burner and even have some DVD-Rs! My year-old pc has that stuff! I totally forgot. Sheesh! I could have saved time last night when I was burning all the other files (ended up with half a dozen CDs). Well, thanks for jogging my memory, Judy. Maybe someone else who still has only a CD burner will benefit from this exchange.

Sue,

That is too funny!

I know what it is... You were pulling an "April's fool" joke! Keeping everything light and happy.

I wish! But that's a good idea. I can screw up all day and just say, "Ha! gotcha! I was just checking to see if you thought I was that dumb."

Sue,

Thought I would just throw that out there so you could claim the "April" Fool" thing. It has worked pretty well for me today
