moving to trash folder

Hi

I some how moved some of my email from my AW2000 inbox to the trash folder and would like to move some more but don't remember how I did it before.

Also can the email filter be used to select what is allowed in as opposed to trying to block out unwanted junk. Seems to me that it would be a lot easier to allow in the few types of emails than to try to block an unlimited variety of combinations.

Thanks

Alex

Re: moving to trash folder new [re: windquest]

Alex,

Not a problem. Done that myself before

Go to the appropriate Trash folder, Sent, received. Click on the email(s) that you wish to restore, Right click. A pop up menu appears. Select Move to Folder and then select what folder you want to move the email(s) to.

About the "filters". AW2K filters do not "block" email. The filters are used to configure what folder, including the trash can folder, the email goes when email is checked. You set the parameters for the email. So even if something you want to keep gets stuck in the Trash Can folder, you can still restore it back to the Inbox, etc by following the steps outlined above.

Does that help?

Well what I want to do is move junk from my inbox to the trash.
How do I do that.

I am still working on the filters and it looks pretty cool so far.

Alex,

There are 2 ays to move email to Trash. You can simply click on one or several emails and highlight blue, Hit Ctrl+Delete. A prompt appears confirming you wish to move the email(s) to Trash.

Or you can highlight the email(s) in blue, right click and select "Delete" from the pop up menu. Either way works. Although, I use the keyboard instead of right click because it is faster for me. But I use keyboard shortcuts most often.

The filters are pretty cool. We use them.

Hope that helps.

Hi:
There is another way you can move a bunch of emails to trash. That is control click on each email you want to send to the trash. Then while holding down the control key dragging the emails to the appropriate trash folder and then as Judy said you will get the message "do you wanna do this". Also if you want to do the same thing to a group that all are one after the other. Shift click on the first one and then scroll down and shift click on the last one and while continuing to hold the shif key drag to the trash

I just highlight (Shift+click for contiguous mails; Ctrl+click for noncontiguous mails) all the mail I want gone, and then click the WASTEBASKET icon in the upper menu bar.

Alex,

There are so many ways to accomplish a task. Well, you'll just have to try them all and see what you like the very best

Or change around from method to method. Drives my staff up the wall if I change mid-stream and use a different method.

Re: moving to trash folder new [re: bluepennylady]

I would like all the email to go to the trash except "Notification of an Instant Payment Received", and a few others. How would I set up the email account and filters to accomplish this. There are more but I can figure them out from the first one.

Re: moving to trash folder new [re: windquest]

Alex,

I am going on the presumption you only have 1 email account configured in AW2K. If you have more, we can create filters for the other accounts as well.

Go to the "Email" window. Click on "Messages" on the menu along the top. From the drop down menu, select "Filters'

A window appears. The first option along the top of that window is for selecting the email account for which you want to set a filter. So choose an email account.

There is a box along the left side with a "+" sign. You will need to add a filter name there. For every incoming email, you need to create a filter and tell the filter where you want the email to go, which is into the trash. The very last option in the window is "Then move mesage to folder" "Trash can" is already in the menu.

You must configure a filter for every incoming email message that you want trashed. It is the exact same idea as creating Message Rules for Outlook express or Outlook, if that helps any.

Does that make sense and help you??

Re: moving to trash folder new [re: bluepennylady]

well that's the problem as I see it. How can I possibly create a filter for all the junk mail it receive. It changes all the time. I have set rules in MS outlook that do the job very well though.

Re: moving to trash folder new [re: windquest]

Alex,

Okay, I am tracking with you now.

Here is how I handle the junk mail thing. Now I realize this requires an additional step. But I have used this method for 4 years and it works.

First I configured both AW2K and Outlook Express to leave a copy of email on the server.

The first thing we do here in the morning, is load email into Outlook express, not AW2K. We go through the email in Outlook express, delete all unwanted email. After the "Deleted Items" box is emptied then we hit "Send and Receive" again. I have configured all Outlook Express email clients in the network Advanced settings to "Delete email from server when Deleted from the Deleted Items box. So it cleans up everything I don't want retrieved and loaded into AW2K.

Then I have filters for other email such as "Question to seller or ebay member, etc go into a folder, End of auctions go into a folder, Payments go into a folder etc. As we need folders, we will create additional folders. Doing it one at a time as needed, doesn't make it seem so hard. Setting up the first time, can seem a bit overwhelming. But once done, you won't need to do it again.

Do you think that will be helpful to you at all?

Re: moving to trash folder new [re: bluepennylady]

well that should work for me. It would be nice if I could set the default to dump everything in the junk folder and then use the filters to extract what I want. Would be simplier in the long run. In the meantime I could do it like you do.

Re: moving to trash folder new [re: windquest]

Alex,

I don't know how your Outlook is configured but in order for my filters to work properly in Outlook, I had to set up rules on an individual basis.

The principle concept behind the email in AW2K is that you load email you want, not that you don't want. Does that make more sense?

Alex,

Have you successfully configured your AW2K email filters to do what you want? Thought I better check.
