Can New AOL be used now?? new

Hi, Newbie here...Just began setting up AucWiz on my Desktop (Hope I don't regret not putting it on my laptop instead...we'll see).
Anyway, I got stopped dead at the email part because my entire business is run through AOL. But, like the scheduled listings, maybe there's a way around this? I have a website and unlimited email addresses I can set up (just never needed them). I know nothing about other email programs mentioned here like Thunderbird. Anyway, it's 12:01am and I'm freaking. Is there ANY solution? AOL can be used via regular access now...so doesn't that make it useable somehow?
In the meantime, I'm stopped from setting up the auction profile and going any further...jeez, can the evening get any better! ;..(
Better go meditate before I cry...

Re: Can New AOL be used now?? new [re: astor]

HI,

I can send Kleenex tissues if that will help

Any email account that used SMTP and POP3 protocol will work. I have not checked out the new AOL to see. You might go to their help section and see if the email can be retrieved via SMTP and POP3. If it can, AOL will provide the settings you need to use.

SO after meditating, go check with AOL. Then let me know what their help says, If you can't find the info, let me know and I'll do some digging around to see what I can find on the issue.

And if you find you should have installed AW2000 on your laptop instead, I can show you how to move the entire copy to your laptop. It isn't hard. Then you just uninstall it off the other computer after you move it.

YES - AOL+AW2 !!! new [re: bluepennylady]

GREAT NEWS GUYS...YES, AOL IS NOW COMPATIBLE WITH AW2!!!

Here's the info for your review...
=========================================
About Open Mail Access
You can now send and receive your AOL® or AIM® e-mail using any e-mail program, as long as it supports either the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) or the Post Office Protocol (POP). You get all the great features AOL or AIM e-mail has to offer and the flexibility to read and send e-mail via a third-party e-mail client.

About IMAP and POP3
IMAP and POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) are the widely used standards for reading e-mail. IMAP allows you to read your e-mail directly from the remote e-mail server and the e-mail will remain accessible on the e-mail server even if you use a different computer to access it later. POP3 requires you to download your e-mail to your computer before you can read it and the e-mail is deleted from the e-mail server as soon as it is downloaded, so the only copy of your e-mail is on the one computer used to read it.

What Your E-mail Application Must Support

AOL or AIM e-mail can be sent and received using other e-mail applications by setting up a connection to AOL's or AIM's e-mail servers. Setting up access to the servers is simple, and the settings are similar for most e-mail applications.

Your e-mail application must support either POP or IMAP as the incoming e-mail server and authenticated SMTP as the outgoing e-mail server. The application must also allow you to change the outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server.

Note: SMTP is the major standard for sending e-mail on the Internet. Using an authenticated SMTP server means that to send e-mail you must log into the SMTP server with a user name and password.

The user name and password to send AOL or AIM e-mail are your AOL® or AIM® screen name and password.

E-mail Application Setup Basics

Setting up access to the AOL® or AIM® Mail servers is simple, and the settings are similar for most e-mail applications.

The basic information that you need to setup using IMAP and POP3 is as follows:

Your e-mail address is screenname@aol.com or screenname@aim.com.

Be sure to include the @aol.com or @aim.com suffix.

The Incoming mail (POP) server address is: imap.aol.com and imap.aim.com for IMAP and pop.aol.com or pop.aim.com for POP3.

Check the box for Leaving messages on the server.

The Outgoing mail (SMTP) server address is: smtp.aol.com or smtp.aim.com, port: 587.

Your user name is your AOL or AIM screen name.

Your password is your AOL® or AIM® password.

E-mail Application Setup Assistance
To see the most popular e-mail applications that are supported with our service and for step-by-step setup instructions, please go to AOL Keyword: Open Mail Access. You can access this keyword only through the AOL® software.

If you need more assistance configuring your e-mail software, check the program Help files or visit the manufacturer's Web site. You should be able to find the assistance you need.

Features Unavailable With E-mail Applications
The following AOL® or AIM® e-mail features are not available with other e-mail applications:

E-mail marked for deletion is retained in the original folder, then it is deleted by the AOL® or AIM® IMAP servers once daily. Some applications show deleted e-mail in the original folder with the message flagged for deletion (such as Outlook® or Eudora®), while other applications do not show these e-mails.

You will not be able to check the status of a sent message or retrieve unopened e-mail from AOL® or AIM® members.
The Report Spam button is not available on IMAP. To report messages as spam, move them to your Spam folder.

AOL or AIM IMAP servers do not allow folders to be created or deleted in the root folder. You will see an Inbox, Sent Items, Saved, Spam, and Voicemail folder. The Voicemail folder cannot be accessed unless you subscribe to the AOL® Voicemail product. For more information on AOL Voicemail, go to AOL® Keyword: Voicemail.

You cannot manually add messages to the Inbox or Sent Items folders. Messages will only be added to these folders when an e-mail is received or sent by the AOL or AIM IMAP server.

Re: GETTING ERROR in setup new [re: astor]

HI,

I glanced through the AOL documentation. Without reading everything, it appears as if you need to check the "Authentication" checkbox in AW2000. Give that a try and let me know if that solves the problem or not.

Re: Can New AOL be used now?? new [re: astor]

I used auction wizard years ago and had a comcast account for my email. Worked like a charm. I now am starting up the ebay thing again, but only have AOL.

I see this post was made a long time ago, but would like some more info on how I can set up my AOL email address. The outgoing test worked fine, I just cannot seem to get the incoming email correct. Any help would be great! Do I use the POP3 or the Imap procedure?

HI there

Welcome back! good to see you around again.

AOL isn't compatible with AW2K
Check the AW2000 help file in the EMail setting for a list of compatible/non-compatible email providers.. But AOL won't work..

Re: Can New AOL be used now?? new [re: netters1980]

HI

The only thing that you can try with the AOL account is to use the Authentication checkbox and see if it will work or not.

Yahoo, gmail or hotmail do not support SMTP or POP3 protocol and is not compatible.

IMAP protocol works with AW2000 as that is what my email service is.
