Insufficient Disk Space???

I am going crazy here! I keep getting an error message that states "Insufficient Disk Space". It doesn't happen all the time, but enough to make me crazy. We have checked EVERYTHING that we can think of on the system, but the problem is still here. I have plenty of free space on the computer (3/4 free space, actually) so this does not make any sense. PLUS, it is only happening on my computer. Everyone else in the office that uses AW is problem free!
Does anyone have a suggestion? I just switched my entire computer system over yesterday thinking that it was a computer issue, but it still is giving me this error message. Please, if you can suggest anything, I would really appreciate it!!!

HI,

Been there done that an dit is fixable Usually simple computer maintenance will fix it.

So let's clean up your computer. If I am providing info you already know, well, I am sorry
First do a disk cleanup.
go to "start | My Computer (Computer on Vista)
Right click on the " C" drive and select "Properties" from the pop up menu.

When the applet opens the first tab is "General: It is there you can perform the disk cleanup. If you have not done it for awhile, it may take quite a bit of time. Let it work.
When the files to clean up appear, get rid of the Recycle bin, all the internet temp files. Don't do anything with Office setup files. those files allow Office to do updates.
You can get rid of compressed files too if you want.
Then click OK and yes, let it work.

Next --click the "Tools" tab
That accesses the two next utilities you need.
First do a hard drive scan.
For this time select both options: Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt bad sectors"
Click OK or Yes on the warning that appears and restart your computer. Let it work. It might take a hour to scan the hard drive.

After the scan, defrag your computer. The defrag is right underneath the error checking. So access it the same way as you did before.

See if that helps. And let us all know.

Re: Insufficient Disk Space??? new [re: bluepennylady]

Thank you for writing back so quickly!
We did a rebuild about a week ago.
The hard drive and computer are new. We just installed a new computer yesterday thinking that this was the problem. Unfortunately, I'm still getting the error.
Also, I am on a network with a database on a server. The server is working fine. It's just my system that has issues on the old computer and the new one.
My tech told me to tell you that we are running XP, not Vista on the computer. And that we did a cleanup the day that it was installed.

Any ideas?

HI,

Tell the tech "Thank you" for the information.

I am a bit confused. Is it the old computer? Or the new computer displaying the insufficient disk space error? I am going on the presumption it is the older machine.

What does the "pie" look like when launching the C properties applet? How much space is available?

If that is the case, my first instinct is there are programs running in the background taking up space. I realize you are getting an insuffficient disk space error. But I had the same thing happen on the older machines in my network. And it ended up being programs running in the background like Instant Messenger, Adobe, etc.

So have the tech launch the Task manager and check the processes tab. Sort the processes into order of RAM and space used with the highest at the top and see if something is eating up processes.

HI,

Something else... what are you doing when you get the error message? Are you adding images to AW2K? Are you editing images with another software prior to adding images to AW2K?

Do you have numerous software programs up and running in conjunction with Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers?

Hi,

Here I am again,,, with more "things" to try

Please be sure to defrag not only the computer that has the error but the server as well. Run a backup and rebuild the database again too. I rebuild almost every single day because I am in a network and there is lots of data manipulation like adding images, loading email, etc.
