Leave It Alone

I've read the recent comments about Aw2k being old, outdated, or "behind the curve." For what it's worth, I'd like to suggest that the aw2k staff leave it alone. Don't update until necessary. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. When you try to be all things to all people, you'll end up being nothing more than a bloated confusion like the latest reincarnation of Blackthorne, which is why I started using Aw2k to begin with.

Thanks for a great, FUNCTIONAL software.

HI,

My thoughts exactly!

And I am so glad you took the time to post. We often overlook telling the developers and tech team how much we appreciate the hard work done. Thanks for doing that.!

Re: Leave It Alone new [re: moonstruck22]

I'll second that!! AW is a great program! I was so fed up with Auctiva and I did check out some other programs before I found AW...such as Spoonfeeder (what a waste of money)! I was reading one of Skip McGrath's books & he said he heard alot of great things about AW...so thought I'd give it a try! I just love it.....not sure if I'd love it if it weren't for Judy's help (Thanks Judy!) and the help of others on this discussion board! Everyone is friendly and happy to help newcomers out! I'm not too smart about computer programs!
Customer service is also fantastic!
Just my two cents!

Mickey,

Oh yes and your sweet hubby got us Lattee's so we could keep on working... Geez it was freezing in that convention center. I am pretty sure I supported the Star Bucks there. I had coffee non-stop to keep warm... Even the security guys had on jackets..

Re: Leave It Alone new [re: auldooly]

I have to completely disagree with everything you say. We ALL use this software to run our business on eBay (and other sites) we paid/pay for that ability in good faith. It is only reasonable to expect improvements for issues which have been present for almost a decade now.

It is also expected that all changes in listing options be added to aw2k. I am not here to act as apologist or be the AW2K version of eBay's Griff making excuses at every critical comment. Apologists server zero purpose to those of us who expect for what we paid for. In fact that only serves to fan any flames of discontent because they act as if the whole thing is insignificant.

I fully understand that Thom needs to wait until ebay figures out what the heck they are going to do as well as what is exposed in the API. But, we clients need to be made aware of what and what not to expect. For the past few years now we have been treated like mushrooms.

I also realize that the growth curve for AW2k has likely flat-lined so it is not generating revenue at an increasing rate and thus fewer resources will be allocated to keep things up to date. Revenue may be steady but likely is not growing as it once was...part of that is there are many things missing...still. Aw2k is and has been the most stable ebay auction management software, and that means a lot...but the new listing options MUST be included in whatever fashion is required. How it happens is not my problem, if I wanted that problem I would write my own listing app.

I sense many of you feel people are asking for cosmetic changes, far from it...we need AW2k to incorporate the new options and reflect new policy for listings on eBay. If that means a UI redesign, then that is how it is...but someone needs to let us know...and it needs to be from the horses mouth not some pseudo-mouthpiece.

I know the more, um, enthusiastic of you here may consider this post rude because it is not all sunshine and rainbows, but I am not here to make you happy. I come here to ask for improvements that should be there or have been promised nearly a decade ago now.

"For the past few years now we have been treated like mushrooms."
HI.
What does that mean? I started on eBay in 1998. I've given up my ebay store, unsubscribed from powersellers, and am hoping that Bonazle will explode. I would love it if AW would include Bonazle, but since it is not an Auction site, and this is Auction software, I may be hoping to pick that winning lottery number. I feel lost when I don't have access to AW, if I'm stuck at another computer and actually have to log on to eBay, and have look at the goofy "my ebay page" that they feel the need to change every six months. Buyers don't care about fancy listing pages, many buyers don't even read descriptions. They look at the pictures, check on the shipping costs and check on sellers feedback.
I am just under 50 years old, and at 30 I could deal with a redo of a program. Now, my life is so busy that I get annoyed when they rearrange the aisles at the grocery store. So, happy I am with the way it is now, - Of course, there is room for improvement, but change just for the sake of change is ridiculous!
In fact after having the software for years, think that we should have a choice of subscribing yearly or a lifetime subscription (one lump sum)!
Mushrooms, I think not...

Re: Leave It Alone new [re: maisey]

Maisey,

I like Bonanzle as well. I forgot you were selling there. What is your user id on Bonanzle....

Since you have given up your eBay store are you uploading your Bonanzle listings to Google Base? IF not, let me know. you need to. The Bonanzle xml file is far superior to eBay's file and out performs it hands down.

I would love Bonanzle integration as well. But we have figured out fairly efficient processes for dealing with posting items on Bonanzle. Invoicing isn't any big deal as we build invoices manually for buyers every day so that part is no big deal.

The biggest issue we have is not receiving the buyer's email when they purchase something or the ability to be able to reply back to inquiries directly without logging into Bonanzle's email system. But I think those are details that can be worked out as the site grows.

Be sure to include a link to your Bonanzle booth in all your AW2000 email templates, the printed invoices and a tag on Thank you cards inserted into outgoing packages..

Email me at Bonanzle so I can tag your booth.

Judy,

Are you willing to share the "fairly efficient processess" for dealing with posting items on Bonanzle?
Inquiring minds want to know!
The way I have been doing it fells clumsy, so I am anxious to improve on the process!

Re: Leave It Alone new [re: moonstruck22]

Marty

I apologize for being so tardy in responding. Whatever is in this fresh country air has me completely stopped up, running nose and itchy eyes with a booming headache to boot! That is what I get for brushhogging all the fields before it rained and settled the dust

Usually to quickly get my items transferred to Bonanzle, I will wait until eBay store listings are about to expire and then import to Bonanzle.

I will put the imported items all on "Reserve" . And put the eBay store listings that have ended on "Hold" in Aw2K.

I will open two browsers for Bonanzle. One is the Batch Editor and the other is on the "My Bonanzle > Sell" page.

I use the Batch editor at Bonanzle and filter only "Reserved" items, And start through the listings, change the status to "For sale" which allows me to find it in the "Sell > Search booth;
Edit the listing, paste the item id number into AW2K, change the Auction lot status to Online
Update booth at Bonanzle.

Once I got the hang of it, I can go through listings fairly quickly.

To list new items on Bonanzle, I just create an Auction lot for the Bonanzle profile I have created in AW2000.
Save the images I want to upload to Bonanzle to "My Pictures > Bonanzle"

Log into Bonanzle.
Sell tab
Add item for sale
Upload the images and crop.
Paste the description text from AW2K into notepad, then from notepad into the full size editor,
Add category and Item traits,
Save changes

Paste the ITem id number into Aw2K
Change status to Online
And I am done.

So far that is working pretty good.

I may try exporting auction lots into a csv file and uploading the csv file to Bonanzle. But I will have to generate the image URL's from my web space to use that process

When something sells on Bonanzle, we just manually create an Invoice, add the Auction lot to the invoice and use our normal backend process.
Notifying winning bidder
Send payment received notification
And shipping notice as well as a feedback thanks

I edited all my email templates so they are more generic rather than eBay specific.

So although it does take a bit of time, so far it is going along smoothly.

I did use the text editing option at Bonanzle to remove all the references of eBay from all the descriptions at one whack. That worked super slick.

.

Re: Leave It Alone new [re: bluepennylady]

Your procedure for Bonz sounds good - I do something similar with my website.

I've always thought that one aw2k change that would make all other 3rd party site integration easier would be an option to put in a "custom URL" for the profile. This way you could have the "go to auction lot" button work for any site,

It's easy enough to create an email template that uses the manually entered item#, but I really miss the quick "go to" button.

HI

Hey that is a great idea. I will email tech support and suggest that.

I would like that as well. A custom URL for the "go to" link....

Great Idea!
