FTP Comcast

I have been using Comcast to upload AW2K pics for almost 2 years. The last couple weeks Comcast has been upgrading the personal web pages function and now I am haveing a problem trying to upload pics. The FTP test in AW2K shows proper configuration but looks like hangs up with HTML datestamp.
Anyone else using Comcast have any answers to work out this problem? If not suggestions for another site to host FTP uploads?

Thanks all for the help

There are a couple of advanced FTP setting you should try - the winapi, mode 1 and 2, and the pasv mode. One of these combos should work.

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: TIB06]

Hi,

Comcast has been experiencing technical difficulty in the last two weeks. Other users have had the same problem. Auction images up and down. Down for the most part.

You can try the setting changes to Mode 2 etc. but it has not helped the others. most have had to move to another site.

I use pair.com. Marty uses siteground.com. Neither of us have had any trouble at all with our auction images.

You can change an account now and simply start listing and uploading newly listed auctions to the new FTP account and let the other auctions just end. That way at least you shouldn't have auctions without images.

you can move all your auction images to another site while live but all the image URL's have to be edited on each auction.

Does that help?

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: bluepennylady]

Thanks for the reply. Don't understand what Comcast did. FTP test still shows setting are working fine. I tried to list 1 item and after about 10 minutes aborted the listing. Looked like it was working just real slow. Checked my Comcast FTP site and now uploads. I signed up for a service Photobucket. Can't get the settings correct for AW2K. Has anyone tried using Photobucket service?

Thanks All

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: TIB06]

Hi,

I don't know what Comcast has done either but there are several other Comcast users have the same trouble. And they are not all AW2K users either. It is just something they have done to their site isn't working well with any type of FTP uploading. About the same thing happens. Just sits there.

Photobucket is not compatible with AW2K. That is unless they have changed something. The help file has a list of known incompatible services. Look in FTP Account Settings.

Hi,

I was just going to post exactly what Judy did.
Have heard that Comcast was having issues too.
Take a look at that aformentioned help file, plenty to choose from.

Thanks again. Where do I find the help file? Looked in AW2K and didn't see list of non compatible FTP accounts.

Thanks

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: TIB06]

Hi,
Click Help on your task bar, Select contents. And look down the list for, FTP Accounts, double click.
There is a list of ones that will work.
Also as a reminder, I use siteground.com, Judy uses pair.com. I used to use pair.
Both great services for the money in our opinion.
Hope this helps you out.

HI,

If you are wanting to build a website, then siteground.com is a better choice. That is if you do not have any software for building your website as siteground.com provides tools for building your website. Pair.com does not provide the tools. You must have your own.

I am really sorry I was not clear. The list of FTP account settings is in alphabetical order. The compatible and incompatible sites are simply listed together.

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi,
Judy is on the money again.
Siteground does supply a great deal of tools and help to get a site rolling!
And the cost is a great value.

If you want to see what they have feel free to take a look at my site www.moonstruckacres.biz

I used the tools available from siteground to get it up and running then tweaked it a little. The online catalog is provided by them as well with no additional costs.

Again go to my site take a look, then click on the "need a web host" banner on my home page, bottom left, that will direct you to siteground and their offerings!
I think you will be pleased with what they offer.

Hello again.
I viewed the AW2k list of FTP compatiple sites and did not see Siteground in the listing. I don'w want to sign up for another un-useable service. If I do sign up I may need help configuring the FTP for AW2k.

Thanks All!

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: TIB06]

Hi,
Your right it is not listed but....
Been using siteground for about 8 mos. now without any issues.
Works just fine.
I was the same way as you are really researched the issue before I switched from pair. But I have not had any problems, and no downtime.
They really have a lot to offer, if you are thinking of hosting a website the cost is comparable with just FTP at pair.

If haven't yet decided again I invite you to take a look at my site click on the product page, and then to the ebay auction page, those were all created with AW2K!

If you still have questions as to what siteground had to offer, go to my home page, if you click through the blue link, bottom left it guides you through their offerings!
They just made some changes to make managing your account better, and boy are they slick. Real easy to navigate.
And if you do need help, they have full blown tutorials and tech support that is fast and reliable.

And we certainly are here to help you configuring for FTP.

It is compatible, and has been VERY reliable.

Hope this helps, I know how hard the decision is, went through it to.

Thats one thing about this board we all have had to ask for help, and someone has always been there!!

Hi,

Not all compatible FTP sites are in the AW200 help files. BUt I do not know siteground.com is compatible. Marty isn't the only one using them. And I checked out their settings--they work.

AND it is really fun to play around with their site builder demo. I bet I have created three or four websites, edited, changed colors, page names, search engine optimized, etc. Didn't take much time at all.

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi, I too use Comcast as my isp but have 100megs to host my pictures so I'm not being affected. Go into your comcast account and read the help forum ...lots of people are really upset. What was suppose to be only minutes of down time are turning into weeks.

Siteground sounds very interesting. I'm paying for citymax for my website and 100megs to host pictures.

Do you know if Siteground will import all my pictures from both locations? Citymax host the pictures for my website and I use 100megs for ebay. I'm very html challanged so how easy is it to use?

Hate to jump ground without more information.

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: padorn907]

HI,

Images and files can be moved from one provider to another. You can use a FTP client to do that. I move files and images around using WS_FTP. select what I want to move and where I want to move it to and hit upload.

If you move images that are online, you will need to edit the URL image tags to point to the right place or the images will not show up. It is not difficult to do. If your current provider is up and running, just leave what is up for auction as it is now, and simply list new Auctions and images to the new provider.

Siteground.com has a very easy to use site builder tool. You can actually give it a try from top to bottom. If you go to siteground.com's home page, look on the left hand side. First option is the sitebuilder demo. Click that link. And the sitebuilder opens in a new window. You can see precisely how you build a website from start to finish and even look at the search optimizer.

I do not have a siteground account. I am at pair.com so Marty will have to jump in about the console in the siteground account. But I can say from what I have read and the tutorials I have messed around with at siteground, it is all very easy to use.

I haven't read the Comcast boards but I know folks are upset. I have had umpteen emails about it. And I have helped as many move their auction images to another provider.

Does that help?

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: bluepennylady]

Thanks. What I wanted to know is siteground says they will transfer your existing website to a new website with them. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. I have about 70 items with pictures in my store and 50 items on my website, I would hate to have to manually have to change all that.

Did you know your website link signature does not work. You have a colen after www instead of a period.

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: padorn907]

Hi,

Thank you ever so much for telling me. I have had a link week. Every shred of HTML I have written this week has had something wrong in it. And I just changed my signature a couple of days ago.

Usually most providers will move all your stuff from one site to another. However, your current auctions image URL's would have to be edited in order for the images to point to the correct place. That is why I suggested you leaving your current auction images right where they are and start new listings at the new provider.

Now your website is another issue. YOu can move it if you want. Be sure you check all the links etc for accuracy after it is moved.

I have not personally had any experience with siteground moving sites. Ask them if there have been any problems and what those problems or issues were.

Re: FTP Comcast new [re: padorn907]

Hi,
I have not had to have them do this, but they are very good at what they do and effiecient too.
I have had great luck with all aspects of their hosting and the tech support. They have been quick to answer within minutes, any time of the day or night and have found solutions to every hiccup I have encountered.
The only issue I had to tackle concerning FTP turned out to be my ISP not siteground. But they bent over backwards to help find out what the deal was.
Before I made the switch I contacted them with compatibilty questions and even while not a customer they eagerly obliged.
That may be a way for you to feel more comfortable before you jump!
If you have questions post them I would be more than happy to try to help you out!

Marty,

YOu know, I read through their response timeframe outline. Most issues are addressed in 15 minutes or so. I thought that was pretty quick...

Judy,

Yes the few times I have needed guidance, probably not even close to 15 minutes, probably less then 5!
I can't complain about the quickness of their replies.
