another ftp problem

Hello -
I have to change my ftp settings because ATT personal web pages seems to have gone kerplunk. when I test my ftp settings. this is the message I get from AW2000 " The http address field does not point to the same location as the ftp settings check remote directory and htp address fields" Here are the settings I've used -
Name: Comcast
ftp host name: upload.comcast.net
port- 21
username = username
password=password
remote directoy is blank
http address is http://upload.comcast.net/~ckslevine/

It would be great if someone knew what I was doing wrong - thanks

Maisey,

Now don't laugh at me but are you certain you have a directory created in your comcast account with the appropriate user name?

Re: another ftp problem new [re: maisey]

Maisey,

I just saw the error . It is in the http address.

Remove the term "upload' It should read http://home.comcast.net/~username/

Try that and let me know

Re: another ftp problem new [re: maisey]

Maisey,

That is within your directory at comcast.

Please double check how you typed in the http address and be sure there are only two forward slashes after http etc. Just so we'll know it isn't a misspelled word or an extra slash.

Re: another ftp problem new [re: bluepennylady]

I copied it exactly -
http://home.comcast.net/ckslevine/
now in AW2000 there is a spot for remote directory and there is just a / in that block.
thanks

Re: another ftp problem new [re: maisey]

Maisey,

The remote directory for a comcast FTP account must be blank. Remove the slash from the Remote directory and see if that fixes the problem.

Re: another ftp problem new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,
it looks like it might work, will aw2000 create its own directory. I've ended all my listings early on eBay, to re list with the pictures on the comcast server. thanks

Re: another ftp problem new [re: maisey]

Maisey,

Yes AW2000 will write its own directory when you list. It will literally read, "AW2K" in your directory list. YOu can click the directory and then view all of the LotImg that you have uploaded. Or at least most of the FTP spaces will allow you to click into the directory and view the files.

Let me know if the problem is resolved or not.

Judy
I found the clue, besides all the stuff you helped me with -
here is how it should read
http://home.comcast.net/~ckslevine/
you need that squiggle line before the ckslevine- who knew

Re: another ftp problem new [re: maisey]

Maisey,

Yep that is how it should read. The first HTTP address I sent has the tilda in it (squiggly line :o)

So you are good to go? And working fine???

Re: another ftp problem new [re: bluepennylady]

Yup. I think we are OK, I just hope Comcast doen't go down like ATT worldnet did on me, in 8 years it worked fine, but I had 10 auctions closing last night with no pictures- needless to say, didn't do that well. Many of my friends have suggested using ebay picture service, but I end up paying them 400-600 per month in fees to start with, and I have server space with my email account - so I hope this works out better, thanks for all your help-

Re: another ftp problem new [re: maisey]

Maisey,

I am glad to know you are up and running again.

If you put the pencil to eBay picture services, it really isn't that cheap. One of the fastest ways to reduce the fees you pay eBay is by hosting your own images. Since you have plenty of room at Comcast, you should be in fine shape. Just keep tabs for a few weeks at how much space you are using by logging into your Comcast account and checking. If you see you are using alot of space, you might consider deleting images of Sold Auction lots sooner than the default 7 days. That will help reduce the space used.

Hi:
I am having similar Comcast issues. I opened a help ticket and they responded that they don't support what I am trying to do.

Are you using Comcast for the FTP file store?

Thanks
Frank

Re: another ftp problem new [re: fschimpf]

Frank,

I do not use Comcast. I use pair.com. Now I may be wrong, but it seems to me that Maisey ended up having to change from Comcast to pair.com a bit later that same week she was having trouble as the issue kept re-appearing.

The changes Comcast has made recently have created quite a few problems (aw2k users and others as well)

What problem(s) are you having with comcast?

You never sleep, do you...
When I submit, my eBay ad has no pictures.
I test the FTP account, and it takes a long time.
Ultimately it fails.
Unable to login to FTP server. Check username and password.

Re: another ftp problem new [re: fschimpf]

Hi,

Not much anyway Which could account for my "skinnyness"

Comcast changed some of the manners the user name, etc had to be written.

check the HTTP address as well as your user name again. Most of the HTTP addresses etc have to have a tilda in them now. That wasn't like that before.

If the FTP test fails, and it worked before, the change is on Comcast's side,,,unfortunately.

Can you go to Comcast and access your FTP account?

Re: another ftp problem new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi Again..
I moved on from Comcast. Too much hassle, and they don't want to support this.

I actually have a website hosted, so this should be a no-brainer..

I did a test FTP on my website and received an error message. The FTP address and the http address do not match.

This is due to the fact that the IP address is the root of my site(FTP Host Name), and the http address is where I want the pics to go.

Any thoughts on this?

Also. Q2:
Since all of my pictures are already on my site, can I configure something in the Ad so that I am just pointing to them instead of trying to reload them?

Thanks
Frank

Re: another ftp problem new [re: fschimpf]

Good Morning, Frank,

Concerning the FTP settings, email tech support at:

info@auctionwizard2000.com

Tech will need to see the FTP log files to trouble shoot the HTTP address issue.
