Template image not showing up

I revamped the listing template for an online auction, adding an image below the description. I remembered to set the Lot's Status to Off Line and to reupload the new template/images/etc., but when I swap out the old template at eBay with the new template (source code of the Lot Preview; remove the bits of code at the top and bottom; paste in the image host info; copy/paste over the original code in the Revise Auction page), the new image doesn't show (broken image icon).

I notice the format of the URL is different from Lot Image URLs, so is there something else I should be doing?

Here, for example is one of the regular pictures:

http://bellat.pair.com/tic/aw2k2008/aw2k/LotImg16876.jpg

And here's the URL of the image I'm trying to add as part of the listing template, which incidentally shows up fine when I preview the Lot:

http://bellat.pair.com/tic/aw2k2008/aw2k/Img147.jpg
Notice that it's not LotImg; it's just Img, and the number is only three digits. Clicking this gets the "Oops! Link is broken" message.

And here's the auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360168696419

Any ideas?

Thanks, Sue

Sue

In the Preview, right click on the image,

Select properties in the pop up menu

ON the image properties the entire image URL should be displayed but you should also be able to see the correct Logimg number

See if that helps.

Hi Judy,

Properties of the image in the Preview shows the URL as file:///C:/Aw2000/Preview/Img147.jpg
(that's not a URL).

This is an image I found on the web and saved to my hard drive. Is my template seeking the original online?? I added the template component as an Image, not a hyperlink.

Thanks, Sue

P.S. How was your vacation?

Re: Template image not showing up new [re: bluepennylady]

Yes, I've uploaded the image......at least, I assume it was uploaded when I uploaded the auction Lot and its Listing Template (the template was created for just this one Lot; isn't being used for any other listings). Or do I have to upload it separately?

When I added it to the Listing Template, I just browsed for the image on my computer. Can't the Template associate (or whatever) the image with that template the same way it does with the auction images? I thought the image needed to be uploaded separately (a URL created for it) only if I added the Template component as a URL.

Sue

You silly goose! I don't know what this group would do without you, but we probably will survive if you just go "missing" for a few blissful days. Have fun!!!

Sue,

The image URL on the live auction isn't correct or it would show up. So you will have to find the image on your webspace and get the lotimg number then add it to the image code at eBay.

If you changed the Auction lot to Queued for listing and went through the image upload process then the new image should be uploaded as long as the image is on the Auction lot image tab. I don't believe the image can be associated just using the method you are describing.

Re: Template image not showing up new [re: bluepennylady]

Every time I use an FTP program, I'm totally lost, but somehow I eventually manage to get logged in and get the file uploaded. In the end, I just uploaded the file directly from my hard drive, and it's named as I named it (not LotImg). I revised the auction and just pasted in the URL of the file. So it's showing up on the auction page now -- success.

But..............I still don't know why AW didn't upload it as a component of the Listing Template. We can save this discussion for another day, however.

Thanks again Judy. Enjoy the rest of your voyage.

Sue

Re: Template image not showing up new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

Well part of my voyage I didn't have internet .. Which really makes one feel "disconnected" when you are accustomed to being "Connected" all the time

Okay back to the template and image.... Let me see if I can explain this without being totally and completely confusing.

If you use the Template preview which is done from the Auction lots and place that code into eBay, then the image URL would not be correct because it is pulled from your hard drive. ANd the computer at eBay doesn't have access to your computer.

But if you Preview the listing from the Lister window using the "Preview" button on the left hand side, then that code would be right and the image would display as the URL is correct.

Does that make any sense??

Re: Template image not showing up new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi Judy,

I know about using the uploaded image address when switching out a template for an online listing. I've got a "cheat sheet" on the process. You have to find the LOT IMG URLs in the source code and insert http://server.host.com/userID/remotedirectory/folder/ (or whatever works for your particular image host), and then copy that over the HTML at eBay. But for this particular situation, that didn't work.

[Just to explain why I needed to do this: the item was a tablecloth with an odd coat of arms in the center -- it had goats rising out of emblems. Because it was white-on-white damask, it was just about impossible to show the design in a photo, so after listing it, I found an image online that was almost exactly like the coat of arms on the tablecloth. I then created a template just for this Lot, with that picture as a component, and proceeded to switch out the template at eBay. It was the only way I could show what that tablecloth motif looked like.]

The image wasn't added using the Add Image button (in the Lots window); it was added as a template component. When the usual process didn't work, I realized I had to locate the image at Pair, view it to get its actual URL, then paste that address into the HTML at eBay (Revise Your Item). What I wasn't aware of at first is that my AW is set up to send template component images to a different directory. My server at Pair.com is named bellat (description images go to bellat.pair.com), however my Auction Lots website uses www101.pair.com for some reason, and that's where the template component went. I have no idea why. Now that I'm aware of this, if I ever decide to do this again, I'll know what to do.

Sue

P.S. I know what you mean about feeling disconnected when you couldn't get online. When the power goes off at my house, I seriously don't know what to do with myself until it comes back on. Sit and read a book. Horrors!

Re: Template image not showing up new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

Sorry for not getting right back. Been outside working on the new dock in the pond. Our pond is more like a small lake and the boat dock just simply died dead dog dead and had to be replaced... Then the barn was calling and needs attention so went there. Grandkids showed up and I went bike riding. with them.

Back inside to collapse after a long bike ride up and down hills. Grandkids will certainly keep you in shape!

I don't quite understand why it didn't work either but I will ask..
