Questions!

Hi. My name is Dan and I have operated 3 stores on Ebay since 2004. I've used Blackthorne and most recently a program called The Poster Toaster. Funny name, excellent software for managing listings, but its owners have disappeared and its no longer suported. I recently happened upon AW and so far it seems to be the closest thing I'm used to. So now for the learning curve part!

If I have a set of basic questions, should I post them here or in a different section? Examples of questions are, How if at all can I import my listings, pics, html and all, from a TL file? How do I embed a picture within a listing? Lots more questions to come!

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,

Welcome! It is such a pleasure to meet you!

Auction Wizard 2000 is a great software program. I believe you will be pleased.

It might be better if you post your inquiries in the correct threads. That way if other users have similar questions they can more easily find the answer...

So how can I help you?

Re: Questions! new [re: bluepennylady]

OK, question # 1: Do I have to have my EBay store seperate from my auctions under the same user name?
Question #2: How do I embed an image into my html code?
Question #3: How do I set up an auction profile, so that I don't have to key in the same shipping data, paypalemail, return policy, etc., with each listing I create?
Question # 4: How do I create a template tag, where I can enter custom information about a listing and have it "placed" into a template so a listing is personalized?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Questions! new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

eBay considers eBay stores separate. So you will need to create an Auction profile for each eBay store you have.

Regular Auctions be it Fixed price or the 1, 3, 5, 7, or 10 day auctions are setup with an Auction profile as well.

Auction profiles allow you to select a default Shipping setup, template to use, durations, email notifications you want to use for each step of the process even feedback thanks, the FTP account to where images are uploaded by default.

Any of the defaults can be overridden if you wish at a later time.

Payment terms, return policies etc are included within the confines of the listing template. Any listing template you select will have the payment options, etc sections that are fully editable so you can customize the text in order to fit your business needs.

IMages are inserted into the template for you depending on where you select to place them. Or if you choose to build a template pure HTML, you can use the field tags in the HTML editor to insert images where you want them.

Perhaps it might helpful to explain that the listing templates included in AW2K already contain field tags for the description, price, title line, images etc. you don't have to worry about that. The information is pulled into the template as long as you enter it into the appropriate field.

I hope that makes sense.

Any information that you want to be included for an item, just enter the info into the Description field. It will be pulled into the template for you.

Templates can be re-arranged, the colors changed, font, components added such as hyperlinks, other pages added etc.

Does that help?

Re: Questions! new [re: bluepennylady]

Still trying to figure out the picture side of things. Here's an example...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150357695430

You see how we chose the spot to place the listing picyure in the table cell? That's about what I'm trying to achieve here. Hope that makes sense!

Re: Questions! new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

Yes that makes sense.

Your best bet, in my opinion, would be to create a pure HTML template so you can add the image tag where you want it exactly.

The regular templates allow you to control where the images are placed within the listing itself. The selections, depending on the template you use are

Along top,
Down either the left or right hand side
And a center image.

Images are placed within the template depending on the template you choose . The images are added to AW2000 on the INventory ITem or the Auction lot depending on the inventory management you use,

(I would recommend you consider using the Inventory Items module even if you have only one of a kind item. Some reports are not available if you do not use the Inventory Items) However,if you do not wish to use Inventory Items, AW2000 is quite effective in managing auction lots for you without them.

If you use a pure HTML template you can add the image placeholders where you want. Use tables etc. No worries.

Have you looked at any templates in AW2K yet???

Re: Questions! new [re: bluepennylady]

I still don't see an image template tag. I've clicked on Insert Field from the drop down menu but don't see an image tag. I'm sure the answer is simple but I'm missing it!

Re: Questions! new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

First before you go editing a template, I might suggest you consider duplicating the template so the original is still intact. That way if you mess up something you can also delete the copy and duplicate again. Ask me how I know the importance of duplicating templates PRIOR to editing

Secondly, you do not want to add Insert field for the image, That is a page component instead.

Which template are you looking at so I can pull it up and have a visual in front of me.

Try converting the template to pure HTML first AW2K will make a copy of the template.

Re: Questions! new [re: bluepennylady]

Actuallu its an html template that I created. After the Page Properties component, I have one called Shipping, Payment Terms, etc, ending with Footer and then Page Body. I broke them up this way so I can easily change one component and have it cascade down to the listings themselves.

The Header component contains some html code from the top of the listing, then tries to place the picture, and continues on with some additional header information. What I'm really trying to do is just recreate our existing listing as close as possible.

Re: Questions! new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

So you have already created a pure HTML template and pasted the code from something else into AW2K.

AM I tracking correctly with you?

If you are in the HTML template editor, On the menu click
Insert Field

On the drop down are three options.

# of images, in the left hand column
on the right hand side of the drop down is
Single imag
All image
Number of images

The advanced has Image path but that isn't what you are looking for.

Does that help?

Re: Questions! new [re: bluepennylady]

Ah, that's what I was searching for. Problem is, I only have one column, It stars with Lot # and ends with User 6, but there is nothing to the right of it.

Re: Questions! new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

YOu are still not quite in the right spot.

let's try this.

Go back to the Tools > HTML template manager
On the bottom of the Template manager dialog box is a button "New"
Click the "New"
When the template options appear, select pure HTML template

A template will appear that has absolutely no field tags in it.
Click in the template anywhere,
Then choose Insert Field tags on the menu

Both the columns should be there for inserting all the different field tags.

Is that more what you are wanting?

By the way, if you post and I dont get right back to you ... it is because we are getting ready to have a bad storm. And I want to head home before I get caught here at work in the hail and high winds

I know I am a total whimp when it comes to storms!

Re: Questions! new [re: bluepennylady]

Ah, so are you then saying that I must use pure html and not use page components if I am to have access to the image tag?

My kids used to be afraid if thunderstorms when they were very young. One day I told them it was like a cool shower, got into my bathing suit nd ran around in the back yard as if it were the beach. Aside from the very scary visual I may have invoked, the kids put on their bathing suits and ran around in the rain. Every time it thundered we yelled back at it. Pretty silly, and my ex didn't appreciate it, but after that none of them were ever afraid of thunderstorms again. Sort of the Harry Potter Ridiculous approach. But I digress!

Re: Questions! new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

Yes.. The particular image tag setup you are wanting isn't going to necessarily be available in a regular template editing.

You can center images in a pure HTML template or just about whatever you want to do. Mine is done in CSS and I have I think four versions so I can have images set to a fixed size or the images will be whatever size they are added to AW2000.

Hummm, me running around in a storm in my bathing suit just isn't going to happen. First that would be scary. Think of a bag of bones in a swim suit. Not a pretty picture. And getting me out of the house to do it would be a job in itself.

I am not the person to calm the grandkids down in a tornado warning. I am right with them big eyed and all

Re: Questions! new [re: bluepennylady]

Using the pure html seems to have done it. Now I'm on to learning to import from a csv.

Can I group all my listings with folders and subfolders? Or is that what lots are for?

Re: Questions! new [re: dwdwone]

Dan,

Oh you dont group listings into folders and subfolders. The auction lots do that for you.

When you first create an Auction lot, the status is Never listed. When you get the lot ready to list, it is Queued for listing.

AFter listing the status automatically changes to Online and the auctino id number is stored as well as the fees.
When you update auctions, any buyer bids are retrieved and stored on the Bid history section for you.

At the end of auction the Auction lot status will change after updating to the appropriate status. Either Offline if it did not sell.

OR Sold not Shipped if it sold.
YOu generate invoices and then begin the backend management.

Auction lots can be duplicated with the click of a button.

You can group Queue auction lots by using the Grid view. In fact there is tons of work that can be done in the Grid view, right click and select the tasks that need to be done.
