How Do I Enter a Partial Refund?
|
|
|
Because an item is damaged, I have decided to give a customer a partial refund. The customer has already paid by credit card. How do I record this partial refund in AW2K?

Hi,
You can enter the partial refund in the ledger as an expense.
OR you can delete the original payment from the ledger and record the amount you will be keeping.
Will either of those methods work?

I had thought there might be a refund procedure built into the program that I was somehow missing. But I can simply change the amount. That'll work.
Thanks.

HI,
YOu can change the INvoice status to Closed -Refunded. But that refunds the entire transaction. When I do a partial refund. I just delete the original payment from the ledger, record the correct amount and enter a note into the "Invoice" notes field concerning what was done. I also associate the "Paypal refund" email with the Invoice as well so everything is all together.
I will pass the refund mechanism suggestion along to tech.

i also want to express the desire/need for a partial refund function. Simply adding an expense in the ledger is not acceptable, because your profit report for that item will suggest you made the full amount of profit and wont consider the amount you refunded.
deleting the entire payment and re-entering it will suffice, but is a bit cumbersome considering it's merely a subtraction of $x.xx
just my thoughts.

while we're on the subject, the partial refund function needs to include the ability to account for the paypal refund of their fee. I issued someone a partial refund of $8, and paypal deposited $.23 back into my account. That needs to be accounted for in the "profit" report for that item. It's not a huge deal, but if the refund was $100, or $1000 even, it could add up

How would you like to see a partial refund function work exactly? Any details you can provide would be helpful.

the Paypal fee addition or subtraction could be a challenge as the fees are not uniform from seller to seller or account to account. It varies based on volume.
That might be difficult to do. But how would you like to see that ability integrated into a refund function.

lol, one more thing
to do my refund, I merely went into the ledger, found the original payment, double clicked it and changed the amount they paid less the $8 refund, and then changed the paypal service fee to PLUS the .23cents. adds up good.
you could also just subtract the net amount of the refund from the original payment. ie: i issued a refund of $8, but paypal gave me .23 so my net was -7.77, therefore I could've just changed the payment to reflect the $7.77 and not changed the payment service fee.
whew. talk about complicating things
