Stored address when lot updates & invoice generate

Hi,
First,
I am wondering about the buyer address stored function.
Is this the address from ebay or paypal? Seems like it would be from ebay but we have to ship to the paypal address so wouldn't this be a problem?
It seems that I spend more time double checking the address than when I had to choose to store the address.
The time is not much of a problem, it is that sooner or later I will miss one and ship to the wrong address.
Second,
Is the address supposed to update on repete buyers?
Mine is not, I have found several that the buyers have moved but the address is still the old one, and they had the new address on both paypal and ebay.
Can this function be turned off to force us (me at least) to manually choose and store the correct address?
Thanks,
Terri

Terri

The address information is what eBay returns not Paypal. The payment method doesn't come into play until after the buyer has won the auction.

We must use the Paypal 'ship to" address rather than the eBay address if they are different. A buyer can elect to change the shipping address when submitting a payment.
Are you using a third party to process shipping labels. Or Aw2K?

If a buyer has moved and the shipping information has changed, then store the new information on the buyers next invoice. That overwrites the old information. The next time the buyer purchases from you, the new address will be displayed on the new invoice. If it is not working like that for you, then there is something up with your database. And we need to check into it.

Re: Stored address when lot updates & invoice generate new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi Judy,
I use Aw2k almost exclusively.
The program is working as you describe, but that is my problem.

Prior to the update I never put the address in until I received payment, I felt I did not need to know the eBay address because there was a chance I would not ship there anyway, why take a chance of it being wrong.
So when I got an email payment notification from PayPal it was a simple matter of selecting the address to ship to, right click and store the address.
If an address showed up in the invoice prior to this time I knew it was a repeat customer and then I would check if it was correct with the new one at payment processing time.

Now I pretty much just have to check them all - PayPal vs what shows up in the field - to be sure it is correct.

Since I, and I would think most everyone could have this problem weather they are aware of it or not - am going to have to compare every stored address with every PayPal address, for every payment, I think it would be more time efficient and less chance for error if I just disregard what is there at payment processing and routinely select the PayPal address and overwrite the existing address with the PayPal address.

The "repeat buyer" checkbox is checked if the buyer is a returning buyer. So you will know when generating invoices and doing all your backend processes.

Since buyers can ship to anyone, anywhere they want now as long as the address is in the ship to field of the payment, the Paypal address is the one that must be used. We don't overwrite the existing address unless the buyer tells us the address we have on file is invalid. We edited our winning buyer notification email to include the buyers shipping information. And asked the buyer to verify if the info is correct.

Most buyer's will email and let us know if the Paypal addy is the same or what they want done.

Hi Judy,
The buyer address in the buyer notification email is a good idea, i'll set mine up to do that.
Thanks again,
Terri

We completely re-did our Winning bidder notification. We changed the Greetings, xxx from the buyer user id to their first name,

Removed all references to providing their shipping information.
Asked them to verify two things, 1;) Did we have all their product.
2;) is the shipping information accurate.

The opening line we changed to more of a Thank you for choosing to shop with bluepennylady. And telling them what a pleasure it is to meet them and the opportunity to serve them.

The email is much more concise, lots less text.

ON the Follow up with total amount due, we removed references to payments can be sent to and changed it to All mail correspondences should be sent to. That addressed eBay's new policy and yet gives the buyer access to our mailing address.

It is working very well. Our communication DSR has climbed way up. We also added a line in the footer of the packing slip that states all email communication including "Shipping notice" was sent to xxxxx@xxxx.com and we used a field tag for the buyer's email address. We highlight it with a yellow highliter. And if the buyer's email addy is invalid, we will hand write a short note on the packing slip letting them know. Has helped immensely with communication.

That is until the buyer from Hades dropped by. If you check my feedback and see the negatives from one buyer, be sure to block the buyer. You do not want to do business with him. He is not the kind of buyer any seller wants to see in their buyer's list. Been an absolute nightmare.

Yes do.

The buyer is without a doubt the most demanding, rude and obnoxious I have ever dealt with. But he has overstepped his bounds. The buyer had the nerve to send me a long list of questions to answer last week. Trust & Safety is involved, has been since his first email to me, and they told me not to respond to any more emails. I am hoping to get the feedback removed. We are working on it.

I 'll have to share the fiasco with you later. It has been quite the deal.

The kman, right?

Hey, take heart. At least you're not his "worst ebay trans ever..." (FB he left on Nov 14 for white_elephant_media).

He's left quite a lot of negs and neutrals (although he does buy a ton of stuff). He even left a neg when a seller refused to leave him FB.

Here's a follow-up comment from one seller:

"Replied threatening me & my families lives, using extreme & vile profanity-RUN"

Kman is blocked! Thanks for the tip.

Yes it is him. And yes he threatened me as well. I spent an entire week on the phone every single day with eBay Trust and Safety. Handled the transaction exactly as they instructed me.

He threatened me, tried pressure tactics, Then threatened litigation if I did not comply. the list is endless.

He leaves negative and T&S tells me,,, not get this are you sitting down,,

That I should have just thrown some small discount at him and gone on. They would not do anything. I was absolutely furious ..... So yes, tell all your seller friends to block him. There is no way to describe how much time and effort or mental energy he drains.

But what goes around comes around. He has sown some very bad seed and it will come back to bite him someday..

VEry vile buyer..

Hi Judy!
Hope you're all ready for Christmas! I'm sure not! I just wanted to ask you......how long do you wait between the winning bidder notification and the amount due.....doesn't eBay send an invoice also to the buyer...I went to my preferences to try and stop eBay from sending invoices, but I can't find where that is!
Thanks for any help!

Hey Mickey,

How wonderful to hear from you!

Ready for Christmas. Are you kidding! NO way .. Dale and I, in all our brilliance are re-finishing the hardwood floors in the kitchen and dining room. In fact, we just finished the sanding today. What a messssssss!!!!! Dust everywhere... So now to the clean up the dust so we can varnish the floors. THEN I can get the tree up. Hopefully by this weekend..

Grandkids are going nuts. They think Grandma isn't going to have Christmas this year

We don't send out a total amount due until ater in the business day. If the buyer wins the item or uses the Buy It now in the night or before noon, and we have no payment, we will send out an invoice before we go home for the day.

We send out a "Thanks for shopping with us and welcome to bluepennylady" bidder notification first regardless of whether the buyer has paid or not. Then invoice later in the day. Or the next morning.

I believe the invoicing (checkout) is in Site Preferences > Payment from Buyer setup in your "My eBay. That should do it.

Yes what a time to varnish floors indeed! It was suppose to be done about 4 weeks ago but the other part of the house we are remodeling ran into unexpected issues. Like we ran out of flooring, it had to be ordered which took 3 weeks to get it you know when it rains it pours

Hi Judy! I tried to do this but when I go to Buyer setup, it doesn't show anything about email or invoices.....in my checkout preferences, I have "checkout" checked...do you?
Another problem I'm having recently is that quite a few buyers are emailing me saying that eBay shows that they still haven't paid for their item....I have to go to eBay in my sold items and mark that item "paid".....is that because I send an invoice that isn't through eBay? Just wondering........
Thanks for everyone's time and help!

Re: Stored address when lot updates & invoice generate new [re: mouse]

Mickey,

Yes if you send an AW2K invoice, it does not "mark" the buyer's item as paid on their page. We have the same thing happen. Here is how we deal with it

We simply explain to our buyer that we do not use "My eBay" to manage our auctions and cannot see what they see. And we provide instructions on how they can mark the item as paid in their own account. All they have to do is click the drop down menu and select Mark as Paid. It is a rarity the buyer has an issue with it.
