Too big for UPS new

I've been using Fedex for large items for years. When I create a Lot, I enter info for UPS and use a template that notes that shipping will be via Fedex, actual cost plus $xx packing/handling fee; ignore the UPS calculator; email for estimate.

Tonight, I listed an old kitchen table (box would be 36 x 30 x 32, but only about 30 pounds). I already rated it at Fedex and saved it for later shipping, so I know Fedex will accept it. But even though eBay allowed the listing to post, I can't revise it (just wanted to rearrange the images), because I get this warning:

"The dimensional weight of your package exceeds the weight limit for the shipping service you selected."

When I click the Shipping tab on the (unrevised) listing, it says in red:

"Shipping cannot be calculated for your area [the default zip code is mine]. You can contact the seller for additional shipping costs and services."

Ok, that's fine, but this is the first time they seem to be getting serious about interfering with listing large items. Even if I change the package size to large, it still won't take it. I always thought UPS and Fedex had the same size restrictions, but maybe not, or maybe they have different criteria just for eBay sellers.

And evidently, only the "big boys" are allowed to offer freight.

Good thing I'm about to run out of stuff to sell on eBay, because I've already run out of patience.

I could have selected that when creating the Lot in AW, but now that it's online, that option doesn't seem to be available.

On the Revise window, after hitting the first Continue button and getting the warning about shipping, the only options for Package type (with UPS Ground selected) are Letter, Large Envelope, Package (or thick envelope), and Large Package. Even if I tick Irregular Package, the Oversize 1 or Oversize 2 options don't show up.

I clicked Shipping Wizard (don't even know what that is), but it just tries and tries to load and never makes it. Couldn't even get it to stop or close; had to just close the browser.

I am going to work on this a bit and see if I can get an idea why you cannot edit the listing.

The only workaround I can figure out is to change the box dimensions that is allowable for UPS and increase the weight so the cost calculates correctly

UPS dimensional weight is L x W x H = ?
Your UPS package is considered a Large Package when its length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches (330cm), but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 165 inches (419cm).

To determine cube size

If the cubic size of the package is 5,184 or larger, divide the cubic size by 194 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. If the cubic size is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package.

So if you increase the weight to almost 150 pounds and reduce the box size to right at the limit, the calculations should come out about right.

I have no idea what changed. But something must have.

I am sorry I could not come up with anything better.

=====Mine is 160" (30 + 30 + 32 + 32 + 36), so not over the max.

Judy: "If the cubic size of the package is 5,184 or larger, divide the cubic size by 194 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. If the cubic size is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package."

===== Dim weight for mine would be 178 lbs (30 x 32 x 36).

Judy: "So if you increase the weight to almost 150 pounds and reduce the box size to right at the limit, the calculations should come out about right."

=====I did this (changed the weight to 178 lbs) but still got an error: "Your package weight exceeds 150 lbs. Please switch...to Freight: Large Items over 150 lbs."

So I changed it to 150 lbs, but then I get the same dimensional-weight error.

It's not like this package (bulky but relatively light weight; an old kitchen table) is not shippable. I have a Fedex account. When I rate this package for California to New York, it comes out $144 for Home Delivery.

So my last try was to select "Freight: large items over 150 lbs" AND to check the box for "Other Freight Service (specify your own freight shipping options in your item description".

And that worked! And that's what I've needed all along. It allows us to just opt out of eBay's one-size-fits-all shipping calculator. Now the listing says "Shipping: Freight - See shipping details," and on the Shipping tab, it says "Services available: Freight - Check the item description or contact the seller for details." Well, it's not totally accurate, because it's not going to be freight, but at least it urges the buyer to get in touch with me.

I don't think we can set this up in AW when creating a Lot, can we? Would we still need to revise?

Wow, that took a lot of work.

Maybe I did not calculate the girth correctly. I did it in my head. WHich is dangerous

AW2000 does not currently support Freight. I think it has been suggested though. I am not sure about it.
