Re: Noooooooo! Not again!!! new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

Good plan to speak with the power company about the power. You really need to be sure you have good power coming into the main box. And then you need clean power throughtout your house too.

I would strongly suggest a surge protector/battery backup for your computer. A big enough unit to handle the tower and monitor as well. Me, I like, APC the best. Probably because of their customer service and support. Plus they do awesome trade-in's on old units.. I just traded in two junkers today for two new units. APS had a 35% off if you trade in old UPS units. Didn't even matter if the trade-in's were APC brand. So since I needed two new ones and had two junkers,, off they go and new ones on their way

Does your power company offer insurance to customers for thing like computers, microwaves, etc if the power isn't right coming into the house and it fries something?

I am so glad the restore worked well. I don't know about the User-defined WEbsites but I'll ask tech support about it.. And let you know.

Re: Noooooooo! Not again!!! new [re: bluepennylady]

Thanks for the info about surge protectors and UPS devices -- I'm looking into upgrading my surge protector, and I'll have the power company out here next week to check our electricity supply.

Here are a couple other things I've noticed since doing the Restore:

AW didn't remember my setting regarding leaving Feedback before a Lot is closed (I usually leave FB when I receive the payment).

It doesn't remember my preferences for various comfirmation popups.

Every time I open to view and then close the email settings dialog in File: Email Accounts, I get Access violation at address 0049735C in module 'AW2000.exe'. Read of address 0527C729.

Easy to reset the preferences. Any idea about the Access Violation error?

Thanks, Sue

Just noticed I'm also getting that Access Violation error when I shut the program down. Did a Backup and Rebuild last night, so......?? Do I need to run the Error Checking utility on C:\?

Sue,

As far as the Read of address violations, Have you restarted your computer? Usually a restart will correct the address violations. It won't hurt to do an Error check using "Automatically fix file system errors". That never hurts.

If the Read of Address violation continues let me know.

The settings etc can be maintained when moving AW2000 from one machine to another by copying the entire Aw2000 folder from the root of the C drive to the root of the C drive on the new computer. You can right click on the AW2000 folder (C:\AW2000) and select copy. You can put that copy on any removable media,, DVD, jump drive, external hard drive. Then move the copy to the root of the C drive on the new computer.

Then, download the new AW2000 install right on top of the copy. That way you get the newest AW2K version and yet retain all your settings.

Then you can restore the newest backup if needed. I make a copy of the entire AW2000 folder about every other day. And just a backup every day.

I hope that makes at least some kind of sense. If not, let me know and I will try again

No more Address Violations -- thanks Judy.

I wish I'd known about moving the AW folder (I did have a copy on the external drive) onto my new computer first, then downloading the program, then running the Restore utility. But oh well, I've got it set up almost like it was before.

Thanks again, Sue (next post is yet another problem -- does it ever end??)

Re: Noooooooo! Not again!!! new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

Excellent! I am glad that fixed up the Read of Address violations.

Most folks do it the way you did. But it works better to copy the entire folder first and then install a fresh AW2K copy on top of the copy. All the settings etc are transferred that way.

That is why I burn a full folder DVD several times a week. There is room on the DVD to burn it, so I figured why not. If I have a hard drive failure, my hard copy not only has data but all my settings too. So in the event of a crash, I could be up and running on another computer fairly quickly.

Re: Noooooooo! Not again!!! new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

The good news is that I found backups of my photos and my MP3 files. It took me two days just to get up the courage to look. When I got the second external drive a few weeks ago (after the first crash; worried my oldish external drive would also fail), I moved copies of all the important stuff to it (and then promptly forgot I'd done that). Subsequently, I only pasted copies of AW or just ran the AW backup utility to that drive. Because I assumed I was safe with the brand-new internal drive, I knew I had not made copies of my images and music folders for at least the last two weeks before the crash, so I assumed everything was gone. I can't express how good it felt to open that drive and see those folders! And since I hadn't added any new pics recently, I lost none of my family photos!!!

I did, however, lose all the auction pics I saved in February. So here's yet another What-Do-I-Do-Now question:

I have about 35 Lots that were imported (I guess) right after the first crash and botched restore. Their descriptions are HTML, with no pictures in the Add Image windows. Previews show the broken-image icons (ditto when they were still online until a couple days ago). I think these were all relists, and I'm pretty sure I still have all the original listings with the working images. Do you agree that the best course of action would be to just delete all the no-image Lots that are in HTML?

Thanks, Sue

Re: Noooooooo! Not again!!! new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

Before you delete anything, I would make double sure you have either an "online" Auction lot or at least an "Offline" auction lot for each of the imported Auction lots. And those should also have images in AW2K.. If they do, then deleting the imported ones will be fine.

If you have imported data you do not have in the database, then it only makes sense to fix the imported Auction lots including adding images so you have records of everything.

There are a couple of things you can do to fix the imported Auction lots, get rid of the HTML and add images. If the auctions are live on eBay with Images showing, you can click on your image, right click and save the picture onto your hard drive or desktop. Then add that image into AW2K. If the Auction lot is online, you will need to wait until the Auction lot closes or you could end up with images gone from the live auction the next time you list or update auctions. But at least you have the images saved on your hard drive so you can add the same images back to the Auction lot.

Do you use Inventory Items for each Auction lot?

Re: Noooooooo! Not again!!! new [re: bluepennylady]

They're all offline now, and I don't use Inventory items. I've made a list of the Lot numbers that are just HTML, and I'm going thru and finding their associated Lots by doing Title finds. Tedious, but going pretty fast.

Good idea about saving the online images back to your computer, and then re-adding them.

Thanks Judy.

Re: Noooooooo! Not again!!! new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

I have lost images a time or two when we lost images. Went to eBay and saved the images to the desktop. I made a folder for each Auction lot number and put the images into the folder on the desktop. When the Auctions came offline, we added the images again and were good to go. Then I could delete the folders off the desktop.

Glad it is going fast. It really doesn't take too long to do stuff like that after you get going on it.

Let me know how it goes.
