In reply to:
"Aw2K creates its own directory the first time you upload images and names it 'AW2K'"
Well, Judy said Pair.com makes this easy, but I think she's just got a brain for these things, and I've got a brain for....I dunno, getting frustrated and throwing things, I guess. I tried to create this new directory for about an hour today. I'm a wash-out!
Eventually, it was getting close to listing time, so I got a new Lot ready and figured I'd just use the old FTP settings. After uploading the pics but just before submitting it, I previewed it, and sure enough, the images aren't working (broken-image icons). Evidently, the LotImg numbers have again gotten mixed up with some of the numbers that were misplaced during my hard drive crash. So I've got to get this alternate image directory working before I can list any more auctions, but I need some more hand-holding.
Here, again, are the settings I've used for years:
Pair.com bellat.pair.com 21 tic password public_html http://bellat.pair.com/tic/ -------------------------------------------
At Pair, I create a new sub-directory either under tic or under the public_html folder (which is below the tic level), and when I run the FTP test at AW, I get this error over and over:
The HTTP address field does not point to the same location as the FTP settings. Check the Remote Directory and HTTP Address fields.
What really confuses me is that at Pair, when I view the existing aw2k "directory details", it shows:
/usr/www/users/tic/aw2k
This folder name does not appear anywhere in the AW FTP settings I use, and the http address that works in AW is nowhere to be seen when I'm at Pair's File Manager. Nothing seems to match. I can't figure out how I managed to make it work in the first place! FTP is a product of the Devil.
Ok, so Judy or some other genius, please tell me step-by-step how to create this new directory and make it work in AW. Especially, I need to know if I should create it at the same level as tic or within the public_html folder (I tried both; neither worked).
Thanks very much, Sue

Sue,
I am sorry. Last class ran way over!!
I just created a separate directory in my pair.com account and refreshed my memory on the setup steps.
You need to create another FTP account inside your account. Not hard...only sounds bad.
Go to your pair.com account and log in. On the right hand side, click on "Advanced Features"
When the next page opens, select "Manage additional FTP log in accounts"
Click "Add additional logins"
The username can be 2 to 8 characters. So you will have to pick something short. I made a suetest user name.
The actual name is whatever. I named it "sue"
The password I used was the password for my account. But you can have a different password if you want to. Just be sure to write down whatever password you use as you will need it to configure the FTP account in AW2K.
In the "Directory" use the "web" settings. So it will be the middle one. YOu can copy and paste it into the directory field so you won't accidentally mistype it.
At the end of the directory put a / and then whatever the directory name you used. Mine read /suetest
Then click "Add user"
If there is an error, they will tell you what needs fixed.
Next go to "File Management"
Click on the public_html directory.
After the public_html directory opens, click "Create new directory" button that is right along the top of the display.
Your directory name will be the exact same name as the one you just made in the FTP setup. So for the one I just created it is 'suetest"
It takes about 15 minutes or less for the fTP account to become active.
While waiting, you configure the FTP account in AW2K.
Go to File / FTP account. click the "+" to add an account.
The FTP host name is : bellat.pair.com The Username is: tic/ and then whatever directory name you just created at pair.com
Then of course the password
Leave the "Remote directory" blank.
In the HTTP address you : http://bellat.pair.com/tic/ plus the directory you just created.
Hit the Test FTP settings button and you should be up and running.
The next time you list, choose that FTP account. AW2K will upload images INSIDE the new directory. To see the images you have to open up that directory at pair.com and you will see AW2K. Then you access the image files just like you normally do.
I hope that makes sense.

I feel bad that you went to all the trouble to write those instructions, and it turns out I can't use them. Pair's account types are FTP, Basic, Advanced, Webmaster, Developer, Commerce, and so on. I have the lowly FTP account (Sheesh! not even Basic ). So I'll just muddle along until this problem with the out-of-sequence LotImg numbers peters out on its own. I'll just do what I did for the other auctions that had this problem -- revise and manually change the image numbers.
Thanks anyway, Judy. I'm sure those instructions will get used by someone else on this list at some point.
Sue
P.S. A few years ago, I was able to set up a separate folder for my Lots Website. Its Host name is www101.pair.com (I think 101 is the ID number of my shared server; l remember I had to ask Pair Tech Support for help on how to get it to show up on the web with my domain name instead of tic or something, not sure what the deal was), with the HTTP Address being http://www101.pair.com/tic. Isn't that like a separate FTP log-in?? I mean when I upload auction images, they certainly don't go to the Lots Website folder. Couldn't I do something like that again?

Sue,
I am SO SORRY! I didn't even think about you having the FTP account.
Hummm, be back shortly. I'll have to find the steps for creating a new directory in the FTP account.
The steps are about the same except you won't be going to another page to add the FTP login.
You create a new directory. Name the directory something easy to remember and identify. The FTP account is in the public_html so the Remote directory in AW2K will most likely be blank. I can' quite remember. May need to try it both ways when we do the test.
The user name will be your "tic_ plus whatever you name the new directory.
And the http address is the same as I provided earlier.
Give that a try and let me know. In the meantime, I'll see if I can find the exact instructions....somewhere in these files of mine That is scary!

Good grief! No need to apologize!
Here's a screenshot of what I've been trying:

The FTP test still fails. I don't think I've made any typos, and that aw2k2008 folder exists at Pair under the Public_html folder, and I've tried the test with the Remote Directory field filled in and blank.

Sue,
It looks like the username field is not correct.
Your user name is tic but you want the new images to go to the AW2000 directory. So the user name field should most likely be: tic_aw2k2008
Try that and let me know...... I am so sorry. Been in classes all day today so I am real slow on the draw.

Sue
Remote directory field should be: public_html/aw2k2008
And Sue, change the username field back like it was before... Meaning remove the "aw2k2008" from your user name... I keep forgetting you have an FTP account only and am thinking I am setting up FTP logins on my web space. SORRY!! Bad dog no biscuit for me today

LOL. I wrote that message saying Y-E-S and then raced out without actually posting the preview. So I'm already back, and I just listed an auction with the new FTP settings. Worked perfectly.
Thanks again, Judy, for coming through with the answer. I read most of the Pair.com FTP FAQs and still didn't have a clue. It's such a relief when that FTP test succeeds!
Back in business!
