Changing computers

Hi everyone!

I am somewhat new to this board so please don't laugh too hard ;)

I recently changed out my hard drive on my laptop and I need to port all of my Auction Wizard files over to my new computer. So I went to the tools section in Auction Wizard on my old hard drive and used the "backup database" option and backed up the data onto my external hard drive. Then I got on my new hard drive and downloaded Auction Wizard onto my new hard drive, then put in the reg. code. So AW was successfully loaded onto my new hard drive. Then I went to the tools section and used the "restore database" option and selected the file from my external hard drive told it to restore. Ok then it got all restored and i went to open the program and it won't open. A window pops up that says "this program has encountered an error and needs to close". So then I went on the original hard drive and re-backed up the AW files, then I went and uninstalled and reinstalled AW on my new hard drive and tried restoring it again and it threw the same error.

Any suggestions? What should I do different? HELP!

Re: Changing computers new [re: dusred]

HI,

No one will laugh at you! We have all had stuff like this happen at one time or the other.

It is better to copy the entire AW2000 folder to some form of removable media, like a jump drive, dvd, etc, Copy the entire AW2000 folder and sub-folders (C:\AW2000) from your old harddrive.

then go to the new hard drive and copy that folder from the removable media directly into the root of the C drive on the new computer.

THEN download a fresh copy of Aw2000 from this website right over top of the copy. That will give you all your settings, etc and the newest version. You might want to run the "Check for program updates" after you are done

If AW2000 will still not open on the new computer, be sure your anti virus is configured to allow AW2000. And are you running Windows XP or Vista?

Thanks for the help! I will try that next but first I will remove the new version off of my new hard drive and start from scratch. I'm currently running XP.

HI,

I just asked about the operating system because in some Vista configurations, you may have to go on as an Administrator in order to install AW2000. Or disable the User account controls. But you should be good to go.

What anti virus are you running on the new computer? Norton, Norton 360, McAfee, Avast????

Let me know if you need more help.

That's good to know about Vista because I will soon be switching to another system with Vista. I'm currently using AVG Anit Virus.

Re: Changing computers new [re: dusred]

HI,

Vista is fine. I have it on four of my computers now. But I have had to disable the User account controls in some instances to install software.

As far as AVG, you might try disabling it the next time you run AW2000 and see if it has any effect. I have seen several computers that had issues with AVG and AW2000. If you are having any issues, and you are running the free version, you can always uninstall it and try avast. They have a free version as well. As of yet, I have not seen any issues with AW2000 and Avast.

Let me know how it goes

Have a great evening!
