Loony Paypal payer

I've got a buyer in Hong Kong who has now paid me four times -- once shortly after the auction ended and three more times after her item was shipped. Refunding these additional payments is not very time-consuming, but I don't see a way to make her stop. I've written her polite notes, but she hasn't responded. She mentioned at one point that her assistant was handling payments for her eBay purchases.

Is there some automated message eBay might be sending to trigger each new payment? For some reason, the additional payments have all been for just the bid price -- no shipping included.

I'm tempted to let the most recent payment just sit there a while and see if she makes an issue of it. I wouldn't keep it forever, but sheesh! How is it my job to rein in her "charitable" contributions, and one wonders how many other eBay sellers are getting these bonus payments?

Has this ever happened to any of you?

Sue,

Yes it has. IN fact this past week, I have lost count of how many buyers have paid several times.

But there is something you should definitely check before refunding... Paypal is now sending out more than one notice for payment submission. And the notices look as if the buyer has paid twice. Except the transaction id numbers are identical. I called Paypal about it. And they said it was just a new notification.

If you go to the "History" and look at your running balance on the far right hand side, you may see numerous payments from a buyer but the balance doesn't actually increase. It is just the new authorization process Paypal is using now when a buyer submits payment. I was really glad I called as I hadn't notice the balance not increasing. I just saw the umpteen payments from a buyer.

So you might check.

But I have had buyers paying several times for the same item this past week or so.

Crazy!

So you'd get notifications of payments being made that were just duplicate emails? But your balance didn't reflect these apparent payments? That's very messed up.

In my case, though, my running balance has shown each of this woman's payments. She has now paid an extra $174.89 in four payments since May 2nd. I'm just going to let this latest one ride for a while and see if she gets in touch with me.

Just think of all the other sellers who have received extra payments from this person and either aren't paying close enough attention to realize it or are just keeping their mouths shut hoping their luck won't run out. One of these days my Hong Kong ditzo will notice her bank account has been depleted, and the next day her assistant will be looking for a job.

sue,

The emails are not actually duplicate emails. It is the new payment system. One is an Authorization and the other is actually the payment. But you sure can't tell from the emails one from the other. There is not a single piece of information that says Authorization, We just noticed the transaction id numbers were the same so I started checking into it to find out what the deal was.

I hope you get the buyer to stop sending payments. It can get hold to jump through the refund hoops and return the funds.
