Paypal may hold some of your payments.....

[I hope I didn't already ask about this -- I think it's happened before. My aging brain has a very short memory these days]

I suppose I should think this is funny, but......

Listing a vintage pocket calculator resulted in this Warning:

"Warning Code 21915465: PayPal may hold some of your payments in your account. PayPal will release the hold when you receive positive feedback or after 21 days without a buyer dispute, claim, chargeback or other action."

Some kind of API error? Other things that were in the queue didn't trigger a warning. No one has left neg FB or filed a Dispute, and I have loads of positive FB (or do they mean on just this particular item?).

Sue,

No worries. I can't remember what I had for lunch. My over 50 mind just 'taint what it use to be

Anyway, that is not an error. It is a new warning issued by eBay and Paypal. There are some instances Paypal holds funds for up to 21 days or until the buyer leaves feedback. For the most part it is for the newer sellers. The warning is for categories and items where the fraud rate is higher. Like Computers etc.

I get that warning all the time as I have a bunch of office computer stuff in right now. But I have never had a problem with Paypal holding funds. When I contacted Paypal they did tell me the hold was for the new unverified sellers. I had been a seller long enough it would most likely never be an issue. And it hasn't been.

Oh, ok. Thanks.

So it's just the category that triggered it -- Consumer Electronics. Seems like eBay's software ought to be sophisticated enough to send the warning only to newbie sellers.

Sue,

Yes it is the category..

I have heard of a few more seasoned sellers running into a hold issue but it seems to me there were other circumstances other than paypal just "holding" the payments from the buyers.

Paypal is just trying to protect their backside in the event the seller is a fraud, takes the buyer's money, doesn't ship and simply disappears. Paypal Buyer protection has forced them to do something. And the something is holding the seller's funds for just that transaction until the criteria for release is met.
