International Insurance

Hi Everyone! I have listed a few things on eBay in the past few days. I have all my settings for shipping to be insurance optional, US $2 and International $15. When the listing goes live all the insurances are just $2 and I have to go edit them for International. I've checked everything that I can think of on the eBay side and AW2K side. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong????

Thanks for any help!

Cher,

Hi there girl! How in the world are you doing!!! It is sooooo good to hear from you.

Where are you seeing the $2.00 only? I am presuming you are entering the International Insurance into the International insurance field way down at the bottom of the Shipping options...

Are you using Flat Rate or Calculated?

Re: International Insurance new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi Judy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping I'd stir you up out there :)

Yes, I'm putting the International down where it goes, and also have the different insurance profiles in eBay settings. I'm using a flat rate, but it's different for US, Canada, Mexico & everywhere else (4 total). I'm seeing the $2 when I go and view the listing and then select "Show All" for shipping options.

Here's one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=190238937105

It's not too much of a problem to go in and edit it, except that dear eBay deletes the "body" part of the html and I have to find that section and put it back in so I have a background like I want.

I'm doing alright, I guess, except that sales are slow and I'm so broke that I'm trying to sell stuff on eBay again. Hope I don't get more bills than sales :P

Re: International Insurance new [re: substance292]

Cher,

Well it is certainly good to hear from you, that's for sure. I wondered where you had got off to! I"m sorry you are broke though Know the feeling... June sales were slow on eBay as well as retail. The state has closed the main highway here in Columbus for all the north bound traffic. So all our southern customers, unless they know the back roads can't hardly get here unless they want to drive a very long way out of the way... It has been a mess here with all the major highways under construction. I take back roads home most every day anymore.. Takes much longer and dirtier on the vehicles too!

The different shipping promotional profiles defined at eBay in your Preferences will not affect the International Shippping insurance. AW2K does not currently support a whole bunch of shipping profiles at eBay. That is on the suggestion list.

eBAy is deleting the HTML code when you edit??? That is not right... Have you notified them? You might consider accessing "Live Help" and supplying that information to them... Depending on who you get will determine if Live Help is actually "Help" or "Helpless".. But at least they will know about it...

I am working on the Shipping insurance thing... To be honest, it has been several weeks since I checked the shipping options. But I know they were posting correctly around the end of June because I am changing our shipping around. So I checked every single listing to see if options were right and they were.

I'll let you know what I find out. Be back shortly..

Re: International Insurance new [re: bluepennylady]

It's always been that way with the body html being removed when I edit. I just figured that's the way it was. It just covers the page background image. So if I don't use an image it makes no difference.

Boy, things have been so swamped for me. I'm actually getting a little tired of it. I'm a jewelry designer and I don't get to work on it everyday. That ain't right :)

I have AW2K set to apply my eBay shipping profiles, and I entered all the info into AW2K exactly as my profiles are. For some reason it's overriding the eBay profile and entering the $2.00 for everything. Thanks for checking on this for me.

Have a great day!

Re: International Insurance new [re: substance292]

Cher,

The values you have entered into AW2K will be what appears on an individual listing. So if you would happen to have a little different Insurance charge for a particular Flat Rate shipping auction,, it would appear instead of the eBay Preferences..

I'll let you know later today.. I just got to work..Took the morning off to finish painting part of my kitchen... As long as the kitchen is tore up, this lady "t'ain't" cookin' in it.. But that is not going over real well especially with the kids and grandkids. Everyone is hollering for tacos Granny better get into gear!

I'll holler at you later today....

Re: International Insurance new [re: bluepennylady]

I couldn't remember if I had to have all the profiles filled out in eBay or not. I thought that they needed to be filled out for the checkout process to work right with combining items and optional insurance. BUT both eBay and AW2K are identical. I've checked them many times.

Tacos? Can I come to your house for dinner???

I'm headed for a nap, was up till 5am. No I wasn't working on listings, it was a grumpy kid who's already sleeping right now. Gotta catch up!

Have a great day!

Re: International Insurance new [re: substance292]

Cher,

I thought you meant you had multiple shipping profiles on eBay... You mean you have completed all the eBay shipping preferences to match AW2K. And that will work fine.

You can come for dinner if I can take a nap tooooooo!

Re: International Insurance new [re: substance292]

Cher:
I'm not sure I'm addressing your question or not. However, I've found that on the eBay invoice page the insurance fee is always quoted as US. Regardless of where the buyer lives or where their address is or even what country they are registered from - eBay inserts into the invoice the US insurance. I think it is because USPS insurance is static based on value etc. I have seen the same thing happen for a very long time - regardless of what amount I enter into AW2K for insurance - for non-US shipping eBay always inserts into their invoice the US insurance amount. A while ago I spoke with live help on eBay and the gentleman told me it was a known problem and their technicians were working on it. Those poor technicians have been working their fingers to the bone on this problem for over a year by now and still haven't fixed it. Hmmm, ya think maybe the live help guy was feeding me a line? . I've since reported it several times and to no avail.

I use DSI insurance so the US amount is a fixed number and the rest of the world is another fixed amount. Should be simple enough one would think. 'Taint so though.

Re: International Insurance new [re: AquilaStamps]

Hi Garry! How are ya doing?

The problem you describe is what I'm experiencing. However, what the eBay gentleman told you is incorrect. USPS insurance isn't static for International. There are different costs for different countries some countries don't offer it and all that I have used so far require the addition of being registered for around $10 (but you already know this). I haven't actually had an eBay checkout with international insurance yet so I don't know what will happen there, but on the listing page the insurance shows up correctly if I edit and put it in the correct amount after listing with AW2K.

I haven't used the other insurances, I have Endicia and I can choose U-PIC, and the Endicia insurance I believe. I've tried them for domestic and they are a little less expensive. I don't even know if they do international insurance I'll have to check on it. If they do, then what am I messing around with USPS international insurance for??? USPS is really getting to be so expensive and hard to use. *misses the good 'ol days*

If I use the eBay form to list my auction it's right. If I use AW2K to list the auction only the domestic insurance is put in to both places, no matter how I make the setting in AW2K. This leads me to think its a program problem and not an eBay problem. But I could be wrong......

Take Care!!

Cher,

I wanted you to know "still working on the shipping insurance" thing...

as far as Endicia... International shipments are automatically covered up to $65.00 indemnity.. I'll have to ask my shipping lady about U-Pic international insurance though. She is an International whiz.....

Re: International Insurance new [re: substance292]

Cher,

Oh she is goooood at her job... She has been here 1 year. Right after she started the head of the shipping department up and quit. So I moved her up to the position.. Since she moved to shipping, she has only had 1 insurance claim.. ONly one. She is the best packer I have ever had in my life. She loves a challenge. Loves to keep busy.. She has the brightest personality.. You just want to hug her And it comes through in her email communications.. She is just the sweetest thing

Anyway,, U-Pic will allow international insurance. It is like $1.60 for every $100.00 to countries such as Belgium.

Re: International Insurance new [re: bluepennylady]

Thanks for the info. Do you know if Endicia and U-PIC require the registered mail? USPS does and that's the bulk of the cost.

Give your shipping manager a hug for me :) She sounds like a real gem!

Re: International Insurance new [re: substance292]

Cher:
Good to see you too. Doin OK here hope you're doing OK too. The insurance I use is with DSI. It is a blanket policy and all that I have to do is fill out a fairly simple form on the internet for each package I wish insure. The rates are very cheap. Claims with them are very easy and simple to do. I pay a total of $15.00 a month if I use or don't use insurance. The months that I do use insurance the $15.00 is put toward the fees. An example would be say a $95.00 item going to the US - my rate is $0.50 if the same amount goes anywhere else other than the US the rate is $0.75. If the value excede a certain amount (I think $100.00 increments) the rate goes up to $0.75 and $1.00. It is a contract with DSI and it is easy to get a different rate if you find that you are using it more frequently than you had originally planned. They are so easy to work with. Also you are assigned a contact person with a phone number to reach them as well as their email address. If you're interested I can give you a URL to check them out.

At any rate when I'm listing an auction in aw2k I set up the insurance amount for US as one figure and in The rest of the world another figure. But you are correct when I go to an auction and tell it i'm in say the United Kingdom I see only he US insurance rate and when an item sells the eBay invoice only shows the US rate.

I'm not sure now after seeing what you and Judy have said where the problem lies. I was sure it was with eBay and in so many words they admitted it. But I'm not sure. I just end up having to change it for the aw2k invoices I send out. In almost all cases I list insurance as optonal. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I forgot to add - they don't required registered - but they really prefer "traceable" so in the US I use delivery confirmation. In Europe as long as you have the city country and customs label number they are OK with that

Garry,

With all the changes ebay is making it could create all kinds of conflicts.. The calculator is not working correctly again for dimensional weight packages. It is a total mess. I wish they would leave it alone.

Re: International Insurance new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy:
I agree, I wish they would take a breather and just stop "fixing" things for a while. I very seldom use the calculator except for times when I'm selling an album or a box lot. And lately whenever I use it there is always something wrong. So I just figure an about amount and if it is too little I eat the difference and if it is too much I refund. But that's not the way it should be.

Did you notice they got the Free Shipping right though? They wouldn't want to get that wrong as it makes for a better profit for them. They know the purchase price will go up to make for free shipping.

Re: International Insurance new [re: AquilaStamps]

Garry,

You know, the Free Shipping is working very well for us. Other than the buyers emailing wanting to know if I can go cheaper if they buy x amount. Like it is going to make the box weigh less if they buy more...

But for the most part, we are even getting emails thanking us for the Free Shipping and how much they appreciate it. No hidden costs is what everyone comments on. They know when they punch the button, what the total cost is... Makes no sense to me as the prices reflect the shipping cost but the buyers sure seem to like it.

Re: International Insurance new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy:

When I've run a free shipping auction I've seen the same thing. It's funny I have a reference book that I put up almost every week. In a regular auction the opening bid is 6.95 + shipping. It is usually first class mail. With Free Shipping it is a flat buy it now for 11.95. Guess what? I've not sold a single 6.95 book in weeks. Go figure.

But I agree that for some reason they like it. A lot of my stuff the free shipping won't work but where ever it does I've used it and had success with it. Let's hope eBay doesn't decide to try to fix the free shipping API.
