Paperless payments on eBay new

HI, All,

Lorrie Norrington announced today that beginning late October 2008, eBay will no longer allow sellers to include payment methods such as money order, personal checks, cashier checks in their listings.. A seller can still accept those payments if the buyer is insistent they wish to use one of those methods. However, eBay will monitor for seller abuse of the payment policy watching to see how the seller is paid..

Here is a link to the exact policy

http://pages.ebay.com/sell/August2008Update/Payments/

If you have an opinion or suggestion, please take time to email eBay using the Suggestion box located in the Site map..

Thank goodness AW2000 listing templates can be easily edited and the changes apply globally. But be sure to edit accepted payment methods on the Lister window and in your "My eBay preferences".

Re: Paperless payments on eBay new [re: bluepennylady]

I have not been using PayPal as a seller. Instead, I have been getting credit card info from buyer on the phone or by fax and then processing credit card payments online using Authorize.Net, a service that requires me to type this info into a web form. I know it is possible to interface Authorize.Net directly to websites. Are there any plans (or maybe you have it already) to allow Authorize.Net to be married to AW2K so that eBay's paperless requirements can be satisfied??

Hi,

I am not sure I understand what you mean by "married to Aw2K"? You can easily associate and record any payment using AW2K. You can add Authorize.net to the payment, just type it into the Payments box in the "Record income" dialog box.The first time you type it in, AW2K will ask if you want to add it to the payments method..

It isn't AW2K that must comply with paperless payments, it is the payment services you accept. If Authorize.net is acceptable with eBay, then it isn't a problem.

If you are talking about the payment methods offered on the Lister Window, you only have to checkmark the credit cards you will accept with Authorize. net. As Authorize, net is nothing more than a credit card authorization gateway.

I use Merchant Services as they are my Bricks & Mortar store provider. My buyers simply call in, I process their payment through my terminal and place the customer credit card transaction copy in their package so they have it and wont forget who they submitted a payment to when their credit card statement arrives. Record the payment in AW2K and I am good to go.

Is that what you are talking about?

Re: Paperless payments on eBay new [re: bluepennylady]

I'm not sure about any of this which is why my question may be garbled. I understand that I can record any payment in AW2K. But I thought that under the new rules, I either need to have buyers checkout through eBay/PayPal or some electronic equivalent. But I guess I got it wrong. With the new rules, can I continue to have people call or fax their cc info and I type it into Authorize.Net? Or does that procedure need to be seemless electronic? Actually I'd like for it to be all electronic, but I don't know how to do it.

HI,

Offering Mastercard,Visa, Discover, American Express are all electronic payment methods. You don't have to offer Paypal just an electronic method.

Here is the link to the explanation and policy page at eBay.

http://pages.ebay.com/sell/August2008Update/Payments/

FYI. there is another third party provider getting ready to integrate with eBay which will work sort of like Paypal. It is ProPay. They are provided on the accepted provider list already but they are changing some things around to offer better more economical services. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with them. Top notch folks. When they go live with their new payment services for sellers, I would highly recommend you take a close look at them.

Anyway, if the link doesn't provide you with adequate information, please let me know and I will see if I can find what you need.

HI,

OOPS! I forgot to add the paperless payment workshop link. It has some really great information.

Re: Paperless payments on eBay new [re: bluepennylady]

In the link you provided, there is this: "By January 2009, all approved electronic payment methods will be integrated into eBay checkout. For example, buyers will be able to enter their credit card number directly into eBay checkout, and the payment will be routed to the seller's Internet merchant account or to their PayPal account."

The way I read this is that I cannot do as I do now and have somone call or fax their cc info. "Integrated into eBay checkout" is what I had in mind when I asked about marrying Authorize.Net to AW2K. But if that isn't how this works, do I need to contact Authorize.Net and find out how to integrate their system to the eBay checkout process?

Re: Paperless payments on eBay new [re: homeboy]

HI,

I am not familiar with Authorize.net. Do you have an Internet Merchant account with them? If so, yes you will be able to use them as eBay will release how to integrate your Internet merchant account into checkout.

If you do not have an Internet merchant account, then you will have to find someone who can provide you with an Internet merchant account. You should email whoever is the support for Authorize.net and make an inquiry about.

AW2000 cannot be the processing provider for any credit cards. That isn't AW2K's function. It is simply your auction management tool. Online payments are something you'll have to choose from all the providers out there in cyberspace.

I know it may seem overwhelming. But you have until the end of the year to determine if your current provider can fulfil the requirements. And if they cannot, then you have time to do research and find a provider who can.

I hope that helps a bit. If not, let me know and I'll see if I can do better.

Re: Paperless payments on eBay [re: bluepennylady]

Yes, I have a merchant account with Authorize.Net. The way I do it now is to get the buyer's cc info via phone or fax and type it into a form on the Authorize.Net website. AN then processes the cc and sends both me and the buyer a confirmation email. Then I enter the payment info by hand into AW2K.

Just now I called AN to see if I can interface AN to eBay's checkout system, but the person I need to speak with wasn't there.

Yes, this is overwhelming. In fact, when I first got word of it a month or so ago, I was pretty ticked off at eBay and decided I would no longer sell stuff there because for the few things I do it wasn't worth the hassle. (I have AN not for eBay, but for my regular job which is running a printing company.) But my this morning I had calmed down enough to pursue it. And, yes, it is as overwhelming as I had feared it would be.

But thanks for your kind help. I'll post the result of my AN conversation in case others are listening to our conversation and would find it useful.

Re: Paperless payments on eBay new [re: homeboy]

Hi,

If you have an Internet merchant account with Authorize.net, then according to the information provided by the eBay pinks at the workshop, you will be good to go.

According to the workshop, eBay will be providing sellers' with the information they need to integrate their own Internet merchant account into the eBay checkout system. They have not yet made that announcement nor provided details yet, or at least that I am aware of. I could be wrong but I have not seen anything yet.

Yes,please do post the results of your conversation with Authorize.Net.

Change can sometimes look quite overwhelming especially when it is outside of what we normally do or what we are familiar with. But change isn't always bad. It can be very good if used appropriately.

Hang in there, It will all come out in the wash.
