Just funny re the insurance warning

I'm sure we're all getting tired of seeing the insurance warnings each time we list a Lot these days. Usually the warning says:

We will soon be removing the shipping insurance option.

But the one I got tonight said:

Warning Code 51130: We will soon be deprecating shipping insurance option.

It really said that! I've got a screenshot to prove it. LOL!!

Deprecate: to express earnest disapproval of; to belittle; to denounce; to disparage. Use it in a sentence: Daily, I deprecate eBay!

Seriously though, who writes these warnings? That one sounds like it was written by someone whose first language was not English. Even the syntax is a little off.

I am so jealous! You got a "deprecating' warning. all I ever get is the "soon be removing" one.

Shoot,,,, What did you do to get a different one!

I did have the opportunity to speak with an eBay rep yesterday concerning the "upcoming new and exciting changes" specifically insurance. I am pretty sure the rep completely understands my thoughts on the subject

Judy/Sue,

I am jealous too!
I just get the "soon be removing" one.

You know maybe there is a "secret" Bonanzle guy working for eBay, sounds like something they would say doesn't it?

I don't know what I did differently that triggered the "deprecating" message -- maybe just the category I listed in.

Here's the screenshot:

Category 36017 is Home & Garden > Inside the Home > Home Decor & Accents > Boxes, Jars & Tins

Sue, Marty,

I GOT THE DEPRACATED SHIPPING INSURANCE warning today...

This is totally pitiful. Being excited over a stupid warning returned by eBay. We must all need our heads examined !!

Congratulations! Welcome to the club!!

EBay just makes themselves look more brainless than usual when things like this are allowed to get out. Asleep at the wheel big time.

Sue

I just listed.

Half the warnings were they were going to soon be removing shipping insurance options.

And Half were the "deprecating shipping insurance"

Now I am a tad lost here.
Deprecate means to express disapproval.

I thought the warnings were expressing disapproval. I am telling you ,, they have some guy or gal that just graduated from technical writing school thinking that is totally neat to write warnings and decided to throw this one at us!

I think this one is hilarious!

Re: Just funny re the insurance warning new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy/Sue,

Now you guys are giving me a complex. I just listed and got the same ol' "removal" warning, man I feel slighted!

The sad thing is that I started looking at the warnings again, in the last couple of days I was just figuring it was the insurance warning and chose not to view!!!

Now it is just like trying to win the lottery, we sit and watch the screen for the "want to view warnings" window and click yes like we are reading the powerball numbers!
And voila, we get "Sorry, Try again!"
Maybe tomorrow we'll win the "Deprecating Sweepstakes!"

Good Luck!

Re: Just funny re the insurance warning new [re: bluepennylady]

I know. It's a hoot!

And it's even hootier because of what the phrase implies. I deprecate insurance all the time. I think it's usually a waste of money. Some buyers seem to think adding insurance somehow makes their packages more likely to arrive undamaged.

I am worried eBay is negotiating with USPS and/or some private insurer to get a package deal (no pun intended) of some kind. Then they will make insurance on every package mandatory and will up the listing fees. And really it'll be one of those deals where eBay won't actually pay on a per-package basis; they'll just arrange for a pay-out when they receive a claim. OR...and this would be more like what eBay does....they will become the insurance company their own damn selves.
