craigslist

In addition to ebay, I use Craigslist for local sales of items impractical to ship. It would be a nice add- on to have this capability. An extra $25.00 a year for this feature would be a no brainer for me.

Hi,

Have you emailed AW2000 tech support with the suggestion??

And can you provide some insight for the rest of us about the Craigs list, Fees, how to post, that kind of thing. Might be helpful if some are wondering about using Craigs list.

Re: craigslist new [re: bluepennylady]

I haven't sent a e-mail to support, but I will.

I thought every online seller used craigslist nowdays. It is intended for sale of personal items, and thus is not suited to commercial selling, however, it is great for selling one of a kind items that are large and too expensive to ship. Lots of autos, antiques, furniture, and household, well... almost everything, in fact, a couple of enterprising ladies in nearby Sandpoint, ID just got busted... but thats another story.

It is used all over the USA and most of the world and growing like wildfire. See www.craigslist.com and click on your state and city, then the for sale items.

IT IS FREE! Even in the somewhat computer illiterate city that I live in, thousands of listings appear each week, and I find it fairly easy to sell items. Since sales are local, terms are usually cash, so no bother with paypal or that sort of thing.

ebay owns 25% of Craigslist, however they just started kijiii to compete. Thet see Craigslist stealing a lot of potential business. Craigslist is much easier than ebay to use, lots of fraud, but as long as you deal locally face to face, you will do OK.

There are a number of listers that work out there, but the ability to list from the AW2000 database would be nice.

Re: craigslist new [re: scalesusa]

Hi,

I know about Craigslist and have browsed the site. But I don't use it. We use other venues and avenues. But I have wondered about it. I checked the zip code of my town, there isn't a single listing. I am telling you, I live in Mayberry RFD!!

I'll be happy to send the suggestion to tech support. I just didn't want to duplicate the suggestion if you already had done it.

Thanks for the info

Re: craigslist new [re: scalesusa]

First of all I would like to say that the following is NOT an attempt to slam craigslist!

I too thought that it would be a wonderful way to get rid of some of the hard to ship items I have been moving around in inventory.

So I decided that craigslist could be the way to go. So I listed some items on the "semilocal" (Judy we too live in Mayberry!) site and within two weeks an attempted scam showed its' ugly head.

The old, "I am really interested in your items, please let me know where to send the check" email comes in claiming to be local. We send an invoicing email for the amount due. Check shows up from somewhere in CA, UPS overnight, $2200 over the sales amount, written off a bank account in Las Vegas, with a return address in Maine. Shortly an email wanting me to cash the check and send the overage to someone in Michigan via Western Union.
Remember this all played out after ONE emailed invoice believing the buyer was local!

The induced hassle of trying to deal with this idiot's persistence was a real pain.

We had to make contact with all local law enforcement departments, and the FBI, not to mention the business in Vegas that the check was written on.

Just to cover our tails and to possibly uncover their operation, not because we fell for it!

So I am thinking, integrate with this wonderful AW2K program so that you can auto send end of listing invoice emails to scammers just doesn't make sense.

As scalesusa mentioned, LOTS OF FRAUD, is probably an understatement.

And I really hate that because it could be a real useful tool for some of us. And I am sure that it works for most, but it sure turned me off!

That's my two cents on the subject, and I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes.

Just wanted to place a "Please be cautious" warning out there so that some one doesn't fall for this. Apparently these low lifes are fool some because they are continuing the charade!

BE CAREFUL!

Re: craigslist new [re: bluepennylady]

You don't live in Mayberry unless the local Craigslist is 3x5 cards on thumbtacks outside the general store. Putting stuff at the roadside with "Free" works well too.

Judy lives in a veritable metropolis...

Marty,

My local craigslist is over 3 hours away. I am telling you, it is rural USA here And I love it here! I can ride my horse to the Sonic and get a Diet Coke. Pretty funny to "pull" up to Sonic on a 16 hand horse

Re: craigslist new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,
I know about rural, if we had horses which we could, we could do the same!
And I love it too, spent too many years working and living in Chicago not to appreciate rural USA!!
It is actually developing around our farm and I am NOT getting used to it. Good side is that property values are rising and some day some one will want our land to build more houses and I will go and find another 'island'! Bigger and more rural!

Marty,

I lived in town--ONCE. When we were building the home we are in now. I felt like a caged animal. Neighbors on all sides and we lived on the very edge of town. I about went nuts before we got moved. We have 105 acres and we live in the middle. Closest neighbors are our kids and grandkids

I know what you mean about being in Mayberry - I live in a town that is about 2,000 people. But I get to ride to the grocery store on my Cushman scooter. Looks just like a mini-Harley Davidson. Just love it. Gas mileage is GREAT! 80 miles to the gallon.

Have a GREAT week!

Wilma,

I am breaking another horse. And I ride him up to the Sonic to get a Diet Coke. Or we ride the 4 wheelers to the hardware store....

I kind of like living in Mayberry RFD
