Google Base Upload

HI, All,

If you use the Google Base Store connector to upload your eBay Store listings, you are probably aware the Store connector is down. It will not work to upload your listings.

However, never fear, there is a workaround... Using the Listing feeds at eBay to upload your Listings to google base.

In order for the Listing feeds to work you must have the file exchange for websites enabled in your eBay stores Marketing tools | Listing feeds. .Do that by simply checking the checkbox. If you just checked it, it will take 24 hours to populate the file the first time. .After that it is done more quickly.

Here's how to upload your file to Google base:

Go to your eBay account and log in
Go to "Manage my Store | Marketing tools | Listing feeds"
Click on the the Google base file. It looks like this
http://esssl.ebay.com/GetListings/yourebaystorename?fmt=g

Open that file in your browser. When the file opens, choose "File | Save As" on the menu. Save the file name something that is easy for you to remember.
Save as File Type xml
Record where you are saving the file and the EXACT file name as it must match exactly at google or it won't upload.

Next go to your Google account and log in.
Go to your Base account.
Click on "Settings"
IN the Website URL, enter in either your eBay store URL or http://esssl.ebay.com/GetListings/yourebaystorename?fmt=g

Next go to "Data Feeds" The link is underneath the file folder looking tabs.

Select "Create new Data feed"
The next window which opens enter in the name of the file you just saved to your hard drive. IT must be exact

In "Item Type" select "Product"
Click on the "Continue with registration" button along the bottom.

Ignore the attributes on the following page" Your well designed AW2000 listing template is totally compliant with the Google base attribute requirements. (THANK YOU THOM)

Click the continue with registration button.
You will be directed back to the Data feeds window,

Next, click the "Manual upload" button.
A pop-up window appears.
Select "Browse" and navigate to the folder where you saved the file from eBay on your hard drive
Click on the file so it completes the box on the po up window.
Click OK.

Google will begin to "Process" the file. It can take a while so don't fret if it goes for a hour. Especially if you have a lot of listings.

If the "Processing" gets hung, you can always click on the "Details" link. You can see what is processed, if there were errors, what those errors were.

If you need help, just post and someone will drop by to assist you.

Re: Google Base Upload new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi, all,

Quite a few folks have questions concerning using the Manual upload so I thought I would at least addres the two most common questions everyone is asking.

First, you must open the file at eBay and "Save As" each time you want to upload... Opening the file and saving each time insures you have the freshest list of items.

If you do not use the same exact name and overwrite the file on your hard drive, then you will need to creat a new data feed on Google for the new file name you used. Depending on how you want to manage your uploads will determine how you want to save files.

Google recommends upload three times a week.

New uploads DO NOT duplicate listings. The Auction id number is considered the required Item ID number attribute at Google base. When uploading if an Auction id is still in the Google Base data and active, the listing will not be uploaded. Only new listings. So you do not need to go through your listings and manually "delete" listings. Expired listings are removed for you.

The first time you upload, it can take up to 72 hours. So if the "Processing" status seems to go on forever, just be patient. After 24 hours, you might want to click the "Detail" link and see how the upload is proceeding. Then instead of using your browsers "Back" button, use the data feed link again. sometimes your browser does not refresh on its own and so the status appears stuck on "Processing" when it is actually completed.

Re: Google Base Upload new [re: bluepennylady]

Hi Judy!

I have the file exchange for websites already enabled in my eBay store, but when I click on http://esssl.ebay.com/GetListings/yourebaystorename?fmt=g, I get the message "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."
What does that mean??
Thanks!
Mickey

Mickey,

I don't know for sure. It sounds like the "Style" attribute is missing but then that doesn't make sense.

I'll check with Tom tomorrow and see what he says. Not our "Thom" but the Google guy Tom He is super helpful. I bet he'll know precisely what it means.

when you click on the file, it will not open up at all.

YOu know, on second thought, eBay has some glitches with some sellers' feeds. It was all over the disucssion boards. And eBay needed the affected seller's to notify them so they could fix it.

You might ought to at least get hold of Live Help and turn the error into them.

Mickey,

before you do that, will you send me as an attachment the file you saved from eBay to upload to google. Several other people have had trouble. I would like to see the file so I can see if you had the same thing happen.
