Be default AW2000 email settings are selected to "Send Queued mail when checking email" You can change that setting by going to File | Auction Profiles >Email accounts.
In the lower right hand corner you will see all the different options.
Uncheck the "Send Queued mail when checking email"

Queued email will not be sent when you check email.
