Firefox is color blind?

Using Mozilla Firefox 2.x, when I view my auctions, the interior lines (Show Interior Lines in the HTML Template Editor) do not show in color -- they are all just gray, and the links I've inserted for email and my AW Auction Gallery are -- in some auctions -- so dark they are invisible against my black backgrounds, even though my templates instruct them to be sky blue. So this is how everyone who uses Firefox sees my auctions?? They aren't seeing the links??

Example:

Cannot see light blue links (link uses the color name Sky Blue):
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-4-Iron-On-Patch-GRINCH-Green-Red-Eyes_W0QQitemZ140197431594

So Firefox doesn't understand "sky blue" as a color name?? I see that eBay changes the "sky blue" name to hex code "#000b0e" which must be so dark it doesn't show up on a black background. The links show up fine with Internet Explorer.

And Firefox does not support colored interior lines??

Also, I hate that my red frames show as maroon and pink, medium blue as pale blue and dark turquoise, etc.

Sue,

I checked your auctions in my Firefox. It does display on my computer as you state. Although, I do not see where eBay converted "Sky blue" to the hexadecimal. I checked the source and see "Sky blue" in the code. Perhaps I am not in quite the correct spot.

On my monitor the red "Read my Terms" is bright red. Not maroon or pinkish. but the interior lines are grayed out instead of the same color as the frame properties.

the biggest thing I see is the 'Check my auctions" and your email address along the top are completely gone. If you mouseover the hyperlink, it does appear in the browser bar, but not many people are likely to see that.

Try editing the listing at eBay, HTML option and changing the sky blue to its hexadecimal number. I looked in my reference book for trouble shooting color issues in different web browsers. It is highly suggested to use hexacdecimal numbers instead of the color name. so that browsers can properly intrepret the color.

It would be worth a shot. Here is the url to a site that has web browser safe colors
http://www.yournew.com/hex_chart.cfm

Let me know if that helps.

Here's the code for the email link in AW:

<a href=mailto:emailshere@convexation.com><CENTER><FONT FACE="Georgia" SIZE="4" COLOR="sky blue"><B>Click HERE to email me</B></FONT></CENTER><BR></a>

And here it is as eBay has it:

<a href="mailto:emailshere@convexation.com"><center><font color="#000b0e" face="Georgia" size="4"><b>Click HERE to email me</b></font></center>
</a>

They changed "sky blue" to "#000b0e". Also note they rearranged the FONT FACE and the FONT COLOR tags. Maybe the format of my email link isn't standard, although it has worked fine for years.

I meant the frame wasn't red as it is when I preview the template or view the auction with MSIE.

Yes. Sucky.

Yup. Almost no one would know to do that. I'll have to avoid using color names from now on. It's a good idea to view your auctions in the other popular browsers, I guess. Otherwise, you never know what doesn't show up or what looks funny.

I changed it to 80ffff, and it now shows up fine. Will refrain from using color names from now on.

P.S. I was unable to get the eBay Preview to work during the revise-auction process (tried several times, both in standard and HTML revisions and with new browser windows). Is that a Foxfire/eBay glitch?

Sue,

I don't know if that is a Firefox/eBay thing or not. I do know the last time I taught a "Basics of Selling on eBay" college class (which was just a few weeks ago) many of the students had difficulty previewing their auctions in IE. I just think there are times the eBay system does not work properly.

Yep probably using hexadecimal instead of the color names will help. I hope you don't have a long slug of auction lots listed that you have to go back and edit because eBay isn't properly interpreting the colors.
