New FTP config

Hi All,

I am trying to set up a new FTP with web host Siteground. I have it almost there but I think I need to select a FTP file service application. Siteground offers 2. Filezilla or Core. Does anyone have any info on these? I still have not been able to get AW2K to pass the FTP setup tests.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: New FTP config new [re: moonstruck22]

TIB 06,

You don't need a FTP client to set up your FTP Account for AW2K..
AW2K acts as a client once set up.

Do you have a FTP account set up within Siteground?

If you do the issue may by the username and password that you are trying to use in AW2K. In the AW2K FTP setup window the Username and Password that you need to use is the same as the ones you use to enter cPanel on Sitegrond. NOT the ones used for the FTP account on Siteground.
So let me know where you are in the process and I will be glad to assist you.

I will be monitoring the board for further questions.

Re: New FTP config new [re: moonstruck22]

Hi and thanks for the reply. I must have missed it in my email. I do have the FTP set up in Siteground. When i do the AW2K FTP config test I get the error message "HTTP Address field does not point to same location as FTP settings. Check remote directory and HTTP address fields." I have the setings provided by Siteground for the FTP config and it looks like I have the info input correctly. Not sure what to check next.
Thanks
Rick

The Http addy doesn't match the directory on your web space.

Re: New FTP config new [re: bluepennylady]

Hey Rick,

Let me try to help ya out!

Within AW2k your entry for "Remote Directory" should be:

public_html/"your FTP file name"

And your "HTTP Address" should be:

http://"your URL"/"your FTP file name"/

Minus the quotes!

Give that a shot, and let us know!

We'll figure it out for ya!

Marty

Re: New FTP config new [re: moonstruck22]

Hi Marty,
Thanks for working this through with me. I tried what you posted and still unable to configure FTP. Siteground provided me with FTP User name, FTP server name, they are tied to my website. Here is what I have in AW2k FTP setup now. XYZCO is sub for my website name.
FTP Host Name = FTP.XYZCO.com (is siteground FTP server name)
Username = AW2K-FTP@XYZCO.com (username provided by Siteground)
Remote directory = public_html/ftp.XYZCO.com
HTTP ADDR = http://www.XYZCO.com/
I now have error message" Unable to change to the remote directory. Check remode directory field.
I have other FTP accounts configured and working. One with a Yahoo business website and the other is through Comcast. I had some problems with Comcast and I want to cancel the Yahoo site and move FTP to Siteground.
Let me know what you think I should try next.

Thanks again for the help. Much appreciated!
Rick

Re: New FTP config new [re: TIB06]

Hey Rick,
Let's see what we can do
Try this within AW2K....

FTP Host Name: XYZCO.com
FTP Port: 21
Username/Password: This is the username and password that you use to enter the cPanel within Siteground - IT IS NOT THE FTP account username and password that you used to set up the FTP account on Siteground. This is confusing I know. But enter in the info as if you were logging into cPanel from your Siteground account.

Change your Remote Directory to: public_html/AW2K-FTP

And change your HTTP Address to: http//www.XYZCO.com/AW2K-FTP/

Let me know if it works -- it should!

Re: New FTP config new [re: moonstruck22]

Hi Marty,

Still a no go. I am still getting the error message "unable to change to the remote directory. Check remote directory field." I dont have the remote directory field used in any of my other FTP account settings that work. Do I need this? If I remove it I get the error HTTP's dont point to same location. Why was this so easy to set up with Yahoo and Comcast? Is siteground the problem?

thanks to you and Judy for the help with this.

Rick

Re: New FTP config new [re: TIB06]

Hey Rick,

We will figure this out!
I don't think it is Siteground, probably something simple we are missing.

I had you change the FTP Host Name to: XYZCO.com
try changing it to FTP.XYZCO.com

Run the test and let us know.

We will find the issue -

Just for fun......
I just went and created a FTP account on siteground, and then configured it in AW2K and the test was successful!

Re: New FTP config new [re: moonstruck22]

Rick,
After looking over my instructions I noticed some punctuation errors, sorry - let's see if this is better:

Where XYZCO.com is your domain name, and AW2K-FTP is the directory within your Siteground FTP account. You can check that directory by logging in to cPanel and clicking on FTP accounts, in the table under Directory.

FTP Host Name: XYZCO.com
FTP Port: 21
Username/Password: This is the username and password that you use to enter the cPanel within Siteground - IT IS NOT THE FTP account username and password that you used to set up the FTP account on Siteground. This is confusing I know. But enter in the info as if you were logging into cPanel or your Siteground account.

Change your Remote Directory to: public_html/AW2K-FTP/

And change your HTTP Address to: http://XYZCO.com/AW2K-FTP/

Also just for info - I didn't change anything on the "Advanced Settings" but here are my settings just in case yours may be different.
HTTP Settings:
Time out 120 sec
Use Winlnet API checked, Mode 2
FTP Settings:
Timeout 120 sec
Retry checked , 5 Times
Use PASV mode checked
Use Quit command to disconnect checked

Hope this gets it!

Let me know -

Re: New FTP config new [re: bluepennylady]

Judy,
Ok.
I think it is something so simple, could be my corrections, hope so.

The other thing is the username, password issue.
When you set up a FTP account in Siteground you provide a username, which becomes the directory name. And then you also provide a password.
They are just to access the account to edit it there NOT to use it from a FTP client.
The FTP client gains access through your main account's username and password.
I know it is confusing because it aggravated me to no end at one time, till I just accepted it!

When you see the log let me know what you see!

Re: New FTP config new [re: moonstruck22]

Marty & Judy,

Problem solved! After entering and re-entering the FTP info into AW2k I looked at the cpanel in site ground. Everything looked identical except one thing. My AW2K was caps in the program and lower case in Siteground. Changed the case and guess what? IT WORKS!

Thank you both for all the help. I am sorry for my slow responses but I have had other pressing issues to deal with.

This is one thing I can cross off my list.

Thanks Again
Rick.
