How are HTML Templates used?

Auction Wizard 2000 uses HTML Templates to create stylized listings for your auctions, and optional websites to advertise them.

An HTML Template is basically a "mail merge" document that contains the entire layout for a web page or auction site listing, but without any specific Auction Lot data or images.

Special "tags" in the HTML template tell Auction Wizard 2000 where to put information from the Auction Lot database (things like item Descriptions and images). When you list an item for sale on an auction site (or generate a website) these tags are replaced with the appropriate data and images from the Auction Lot database to create the final "look" of your listings or web pages.

Auction Wizard 2000 uses three different types of HTML Templates:

1. Listing Templates (to create auction site listings);
2. Thumbnail Page Templates (for websites to advertise your auctions); and
3. Lot Page Templates (to display full-sized images of all the merchandise included on your website).

See the Auction Wizard 2000 Help Index under the HTML Templates, HTML Template Editor and HTML Template Manager topics for details on how to use, construct, edit and manage your customized HTML Templates.

All field tags are described in the help file. The field tags available in the Email Template Editor can be found under Email Template Editor,Menus and Buttons in the help index. The field tags available in the HTML Template Editor can be found under HTML Template Editor,Menus and Buttons in the help index.

Never type in field tags manually! Use the Insert Invoice Field and Insert Auction Lot Field menus in the Email Template Editor to add field tags to an Email Template. Use the Insert Field menu in the HTML Template Editor to add field tags to an HTML Template.

I've just started playing with the web page output options and noticed a few things.

1 - Any way to get the title of the auction with the thumbnails? It would be a lot easier for customers to scan that way.

2 - Could the main page have the option of a category tree? All of my auctions are categorized like my ebay store - would make things easier to find.

3 - Some limit on number of items per page before a "page 2" would be nice. Having all the items on one huge page isn't very useful for bigger sellers.

4 - Access to more variables on the "list lot" page. It would only take a few to allow us to create a template with a paypal buy button. Now THAT would be useful!

I have my own templates which work well, AW2k butchers the with its template settings, which is very annoying because you have to sue a template to make the gallery images work.

I have to not use a template then I have t manually go through and revise every auction to add the gallery image.

WHy does Aw2k have to use a template in order to list a gallery image?

Now that you've spammed the board with this same message...let me give you some advice.

I also had my own "templates", and I used turbo-lister very effectively. After wrangling with AW2K for several weeks, I finally gave in and re-developed all of my templates under AW2K. With a bit of work, I created auctions that were almost identical to my original designs.

But the biggest thing I discovered was how easy it is now to use all of the listing and relisting features - and how incredibly simple it is to create new auctions and edit old auctions.

Once I stopped fighting the change-over, my life got much easier. So...you might want to try it first ;-)
