Image Mix-Ups

Well, I'm finally almost out from under the cloud of my crashed hard drive, and now this......

I listed a few Lots tonight. When I viewed them, I saw that some images from a recently closed auction had replaced the proper images (two of the five lots I listed are fine). Three auctions, eight images total. The pics of a Deco Brooch that ended unsold have replaced 1 to 3 pics in each auction. The weird thing is....the image locations (LotImg numbers) are correct in every case when I compare them to the AW Preview image locations, so I can't just revise and change the LotImg numbers.

Is this an eBay glitch, a Sue glitch, or a Pair.com (image host) glitch? Any ideas on how to fix the problem? It's pretty funny (NOT!) viewing an auction for a Native American ring and seeing and Art Deco brooch.

Re: Image Mix-Ups new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

More info: The pics for the Deco Brooch must have been lost when my HD failed (odd, because from what I've looked at so far, almost nothing was lost from the disk-image backup, but there were those two days between the backup and the crash....). So anyway, even though the photos of the brooch are on eBay and show up when I do an AW Preview, they don't seem to exist on my hard drive. So when I uploaded tonight's images, why didn't they get new numbers?

I went to the image host and deleted all the Deco Brooch pics. I've re-uploaded the Lot images (re-queued, uploaded, cancelled out of listing), but I'll have to wait till eBay updates their database before I can tell if it worked.

Still looking for ideas on how this could happen and what to do about it.

Re: Image Mix-Ups new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

You may have to go to eBay and "revise" the listing. Use the HTML and edit the LotImgxxxx number to point to the correct image you uploaded at pair.com.

I wouldn't think this is a pair.com issue. So you are saying the brooch images are not even on the Auction lot that you listed.

That would be a datestamp removing old images from pair.com issue. And the datestamp could very well be out of sync with AW2000 after all the crash stuff happening.

So if the brooch ended during the time of the crash,, and the images were, let's say just for instance,,,Lotimg1111......Then AW2000 would not know to delete LogImg1111 from pair.com because all that data is missing.

Images are uploaded in numeric sequence. My guess is when you added the correct image to the Auction lot in AW2000, AW2K assigned the next LogImg number in sequence.... Because AW2K didn't know that LogImg111 number had already been used. It is missing from your database.

When the Lister went to upload images, AW2K saw the LogImg111 number and thought ahh,, that image is already there. And would skip uploading a new image. That is the way it is designed to work so images are not uploaded over and over again unnecessarily.

That is only a guess...

I would think deleting the old LogImg number from pair.com and uploading the new images would correct the issue. But you may need to double check the LogImg number on eBay to be sure the correct Logimg number is there as well.

Let me know what happens.

Re: Image Mix-Ups new [re: bluepennylady]

Finally.......

The deco brooch was listed on the 14th & ended on the 21st (HD crashed on the 17th). Its pics no longer show up on eBay or AW Preview because I deleted them from Pair.com when I saw there were problems. Some time in the last few days, I ran an Import and an Update, and the deco brooch's description is now just HTML. The original Lot number was 4937 (written on a sticker on the little bag I was storing the brooch in); now, however, that Lot number is assigned to one of the new listings which have mixed-up images. Lot 4937 is now a ring (I located the deco brooch by running a Title search).

For the three online Lots with mixed-up images, the LotImg numbers are what they should be (according to the AW Previews). Re-FTPing the images didn't help (like you said, Pair just skips them -- I could see the upload took too little time). The jury-rig method I came up with was to simply delete the images from the Lots (delete the ones which apparently had numbers duplicating those the brooch once had), rename those images (not sure this step was necessary, but oh well...) and re-add them to the Lots, and then when I re-FTP'd them to Pair, I could see they were actually being loaded and the datestamp file was generated. Not sure why reuploading the pics doesn't change the image files at eBay, but I found I still needed to revise the auctions and manually type in the correct, new LotImg numbers.

Now to the issue of keeping this from happening with any new Lots I list:

For years, my online directory has been named aw2k and it's within the public_html folder created by Pair and not alterable. Today I created a new directory (aw2knew) within the public folder, but I don't see how to tell AW to send pics there. In fact, I don't see how AW has known to send my pics to the old aw2k directory all this time. The FTP settings are

Pair.com
bellat.pair.com
21
tic
password
public_html
http://bellat.pair.com/tic/

How has AW known to send images to the aw2k directory? I don't see any reference to it in these settings. I have numerous other directories (folders within that public_html folder) that house various non-AW images, like family albums and so on, and obviously AW doesn't get mixed up and send pics to the wrong folder. What am I missing here?

Thanks for your (continuing ) help, Judy, and for getting advice from Thom.

Re: Image Mix-Ups new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

Renaming the images was a very good idea and actually really necessary. Just to keep any further image problems for those Auction lots cropping up.

I am not quite sure I follow you about the images not being changed at eBay? Are these auctions live,,up and running right now and you changed the images?

If that is the case, the auction lot was listed with a different image file name. So you have to revise the IMG tag at eBay so it is pointing to the correct image file at pair.com.

Your FTP settings are correct in AW2K. Aw2K creates its own directory the first time you upload images and names it "AW2K".. So that is right.

So let's say you are wanting to create another FTP directory for other aw2K images at pair.com inside your "tic" account. You can name it anything you want.
TICother folder or whatever. Let's just call it

"Theotherfolder" for now
so the HTTP address configured in AW2K would read:

http://bellat.pair.com/tic/theotherfolder

Then when you select that particular FTP account to upload images from AW2K, Aw2K would create an AW2K directory inside "The other folder" .

I hope that makes some kind of sense.

And you are most welcome! I love it... Keeps me thinking Which is a good thing for this brain of mine.

Yes, they are live. After renaming the images and re-uploading them, I checked the auctions (refreshed the page) and the images were still not appearing. Maybe I just didn't wait long enough. But revising the LotImg numbers did the trick instantly.

I had thought reuploading the images would translate to eBay, but I guess that doesn't make sense. Pair.com doesn't tell eBay what HTML to use. Sorry, just a little moment of duh-ness.

Re: Image Mix-Ups new [re: tictictic_OnEbay]

Sue,

The only reason I am real familiar with the way it works at pair.com is because I use my account for teaching. I am all the time creating directories for students and then configuring an FTP account in AW2K for them so we can list. It is real easy at pair.com as they have the tools on their site for creating directories. Not everyone has them.

You go girl. I bet you get it figured out...
If not, well holler and I'll see if I can help. At least we will have fun trying!
